Witch Bandora [Citation needed]from 15 April 2023 (UTC), or Bandora the Witch[1] (魔女バンドーラ Majo Bandōra) was an evil witch, the arch-nemesis of the Zyurangers and the main antagonist of Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger.

History[]

Early Life[]

170 million years ago, Bandora was originally Queen of the Dahl Tribe, but tragedy struck when her son Kai smashed some Tyrannosaurus eggs. In retaliation, Kai was killed. Swearing revenge, Bandora sold her soul to Dai-Satan for great magical powers but in doing so lost all memory of Kai. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 48: The Son from the Darkness

With her newfound power, Bandora waged war on the other tribes and the dinosaurs they worshiped. Although she almost drove the dinosaurs into extinction, she was stopped by the Guardian Beasts. As punishment for her crimes, Bandora and her followers Grifforzer, Totpat, Bookback, and Pleprechaun were exiled on the planet Nemesis, sealed away in an enchanted urn. In the event that Bandora may one day get free, the five tribes selected their greatest warriors to enter a state of suspended animation. These warriors included Yamato Tribe Prince Geki, Sharma Tribe Knight Goushi, Etoffe Tribe Knight Dan, Dime Tribe Knight Boi, and Lithia Tribe Princess Mei. Their tombs were left in the case of Mysterious Sage Barza.

Revival[]

Exactly 170 million years 4 hours, three minutes and 20 seconds after being sealed away, a Japanese space mission to the planet Nemesis in 1992 leads to the accidental release of Bandora and her minions. Seeking to pick things off where they left off, Bandora launches a full-scale assault on Tokyo and kidnaps two children that are part of the space mission and leaves them for her minions to torture. This prompts Barza to revive the warriors of the five tribes to put a stop to her by reviving the five sealed warriors. After being caught up, they are given Dino Bucklers so that they can become the Zyurangers, avatars for the Guardian Beasts on Earth and the only force powerful enough to oppose Bandora. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 1: The Birth

This leads to many battles against two of Bandora's creations, the Dora Monsters known as Dora Skelton and Dora Titan. Ultimately the monsters fall thanks to their new powers and abilities. Dora Titan, in particular, falls when Geki summons Guardian Beast Tyrannosaurus to destroy the gigantic monster. With her initial attack on Earth a failure, Bandora is forced to retreat to the moon where she launches subsequent attacks on Earth and the Zyurangers. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 2: The Revival

When the Zyurangers later attempt to claim the Legendary Weapons from the Land of Despair, Bandora seeks to prevent them from doing so. Knowing that those who spend more than 24 hours in the Land of Despair turn to stone, Bandora traps a boy named Hiroshi and his mother there as well as Dora Minotaur to slow up the heroes enough to doom them to petrification. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 3: Fight in the Land of Despair

When the Zyurangers succeed in their quest, Bandora grows in size and tries to destroy the Land of Despair with her bare hands but the heroes still manage to escape with their new weapons which they then use to kill Dora Minotaur. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 4: Reawaken, Legendary Weapons

Bandora suffers another set back when she sends Dora Sphinx to Earth to terrorize children. During this battle, the Zyurangers are able to summon the Guardian Beasts and merge them together to form Daizyuzin, giving them a considerable edge whenever Bandora uses her magic to enlarge her monsters. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 6: Arise! Daizyuzin

Bandora continues to send her Dora Monsters to Earth, either to destabilize society, terrorize children, or attack the Zyurangers directly. Some of these early monsters include the soul-stealing Dora Goblin the glutenous Dora Circe.

Learning that the people of Dalos Island have been entrusted with the protection of the last two dinosaur eggs on Earth, Bandora vows to destroy them and make dinosaurs extinct once and for all to avenge Kai. To this end, she sends Dora Cockatrice to go after Apelo Tribe Prince Euro who knows where the eggs are hidden. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 9: Run! Prince of The Eggs

Although the Zyurangers prevent Bandora from destroying the eggs, they are lost at sea in the ensuing battle. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 10: Monkeys No More!

Later, Bandora attempts to enslave the Lamp Fairy Gin and use his magical powers against the Zyurangers. To this end, she destroys his magic lamp and traps him within one of her own makings, turning him into the gigantic evil Dora Gin. With the help of some local children, the Zyurangers restore Gin's original lamp and free him from Bandora's control. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 11: My Master!

Tired of her lazy warriors, Bandora selects Dora Argus for her next scheme but this monster does not fare any better than the previous ones. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 12: Papa's a Vampire!?

Not long after this, Bandora grows concerned that she is growing older and sends Dora Ladon to steal the youth of children. Knowing that Mei is the only Zyuranger with the power to destroy Dora Ladon, Bandora attempts to remove her from the equation with an apple that puts her to sleep. Unfortunately, Mei fights free from this spell and slays the monster, foiling yet another one of the evil witch's plans. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 13: Fire! The Golden Arrow

When the Fairy Dondon applies to be Pleplechaun's assistant, Bandora rejects the buffoon. However, when the dimwitted Dondon befriends a rebellious young boy named Toshio, Bandora grows them in size and convinces them to go on a rampage but this scheme is also foiled by the Zyurangers when they appeal to Dondon and Toshio's inherent goodness. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 14: Become Small!

Soon after this, Bandora kidnaps a 10-year-old boy named Shigeru and forces him to forge a powerful sword called Durandol for her warrior, Dora Knight to use against the Zyurangers. This plan falls apart when the Zyurangers learn that the sword cannot harm the person who forged it and uses this against Dora Knight. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 15: Destroy! The Dark Super Sword

Bandora fairs just as poorly when she sends Dora Endos to try and infect people with a sneezing virus. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 16: The Great Sneeze Plot

Burai[]

When Ryota the gnome seeks to free Yamato Tribe Knight Burai, yet another warrior put in suspended animation, Bandora seks to help as she sees this as a means of defeating the Zyurangers. Despite opposition from Barza, the Zyurangers succeed in awakening Burai and are shocked when he vows to destroy them, particularly their leader Geki. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 17: The Sixth Hero

This is because Burai, Geki's brother, vowed revenge against the Yamato Tribe for killing their father and making Geki their prince. Seeking to exploit this hatred, Bandora gives Burai the powerful Devil Sword Hellfriede, knowing that it will also drive him mad. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 18: The Hate-Filled Brother's Sword

Bandora then summons her secret agent Lami back to Earth to recover the lost Dinosaur Eggs. Succeeding in recovering those eggs, Bandora begins plotting the destruction of Daizyuzin after it defeats Burai. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 19: Female Warrior Scorpion!

While trying to save the dinosaur eggs, the Zyurangers lose them once again. To make matters worse, Bandora's minions lure Daizyuzin on the day of an eclipse cutting the massive guardian from his power source. The Guardian Beasts are then banished below the Earth where Bandora presumes they would be destroyed. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 20: Daizyuzin's Last Day

However,Bandora oversteps herself when she decides that she no longer needs Burai and sends him back to Earth. Feeling betrayed and learning that he is living on borrowed time, Burai summons his own Guardian Beast Guardian Beast Dragon Caesar to go on a rampage. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 21: The Guardian Beast's Great Riot

The ensuing battle leads to the destruction of Hellfriede. In his right mind again, Burai pledges allegiance to the Zyurangers, joining them as the first Sentai Sixth Ranger and giving the heroes yet another advantage over Bandora. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 22: Combine! Gouryuzin

Dai-Satan[]

With Burai on the Zyuranger's side, Bandora suffers continued defeats. Her monsters Dora Pixie, Dora Tortoise, Dora Tarantula,Dora Boogaranan, and Dora Guzzler are all utter failures.

Seeking to get an edge against her foes, Bandora begins digging for Dokiita clay which allows her to create more powerful Golems and a new monster named Dora Franke. Although the Zyurangers obtain Thunder Stingers to defeat the Golems, Dora Frank proves to be a much more powerful enemy. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 29: A Mystery!? The Attacking Beast Knight God

To make matters worse, Bandora manages to capture enough children to power her Satan-Tower and summon her master, Dai-Satan, to give Dora Franke even more power. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 30: Satan Comes!!

However, Bandora's scheme is foiled when Daizuyzin merges with Dragon Ceaser and Beast Knight God King Brachion to become Ultimate Daizyuzin. In this form, the Zyuranger's guardians are able to destroy Satan Franke and drive away Dai-Satan. One silver lining to this is that Bandora learns that Burai is living on borrowed time, something that he has kept a secret until this moment. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 31: Reborn! The Ultimate God

Seeking to exploit Geki's love for his brother, Bandora sends Dora Narcissus to Earth, claiming the creature has the power to save Burai's life. This makes Geki reluctant to destroy the monster but ultimately his teammates remind him of his duties and that Bandora cannot be trusted and Dora Narcissus is destroyed. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 32: Geki! Slash Your Tears

This is followed by a string of further failures from her creatures Dora Reiger, a mystical spinning wheel, Dora Ninja, Dora Ganrock, and Dora Kinkaku.

After this, Bandora has yet more failures with Dora Silkis and Monster Goda.

Death of Burai[]

With Burai's time on Earth running out, Bandora seeks to eliminate him as a threat so has Dora Gansaku use its shape-shifting powers to pose as Dragon Caesar and go on a rampage. Thinking his Guardian Beast is out of control, Burai leaves the Lapless Room; A timeless domain where Burai can prolonge his time on Earth thus allowing Bandora to find its location and destroy it. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 40: Burai's Departure of Death

As the Zyurangers are divided between defending the city from Dora Gansaku and trying to find an elixir that could save Burai, Bandora revells in using Dora Gansaku's rampage to turn the public against the Zyurangers. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 41: Blaze, Burai!!

Although Bandora succeeds in rushing along with Burai's death, this is a pyrrhic victory at best as the Zyurangers destroy Dora Gansaku, restore their reputations, and Burai is able to pass along his weapons and control over Dragon Caesar over to Geki. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 42: Burai Dies...

Bandora learns that the Zyurangers are still a legitimate threat when her next monster, the seemingly indestructible Dora Antaeus, is destroyed thanks to Geki's newfound powers. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 43: Live Again! Zyusouken

Bandora's later monsters did not fare so well either with Dora Chimaera, Dora Unicorn, and a team of Zyuranger impostors.

The Final Battle[]

Bandora with Kai in the Finale

Soon, Dai-Satan returns to Earth, resurrecting Bandora's son Kai to use as his emissary to bring about a "Dino-Apocalypse" which will see the two dinosaur eggs destroyed and thus, eliminate Daizyuzin by stripping him of his power. Now remembering her son, Bandora kidnaps some children and brainwashes them in helping Kai pilot his mecha Dora Talos and use it against the Zyurangers. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 47: Break in! The Final Deciding Battle

In the ensuing battle, the Zyurangers are defeated and their Guardian Beasts banished to another dimension. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 48: The Son from the Darkness

The heroes are about to give up when the spirit of Burai encourages them to continue fighting and shows them the way to this other dimension to save the Guardian Beasts. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 49: The Gods Lost!!

With their full power back, the Zyurangers destroy Dora Talos, killing Kai in the process. Storming Bandora's palace, the heroes watch as the witch sheads a tear over losing her son for a second time. Unfortunately for Bandora, her tears are all it takes to strip her of her power. Unable to defend herself, Bandora and her minions are banished by Daizyuzen once more, sealing them once more in an enchanted urn but this time thrusting it deep into the depths of outer space. Underterred by her defeat, Bandora loudly declares herself far from defeated, claimin she will one day return to terrorize the Earth once more. Despite this, her attention quickly tuns to Grifforzer and Lami's newly born son, Grifforzer, Jr. who she quickly dotes over like she used to do with Kai. Tvicon TV STORY-Final Ep.: Viva Dinosaurs

Personality[]

Bandora hated dinosaurs and children and frequently went out of her way to harm them or use them as pawns in her various plans. Like most Sentai arch-enemies, she got especially furious when her plans failed, often lashing out at her underlings and developing stress headaches, though she happened to be among least extreme cases since Bandora proved to be an ideal boss for her men; she sincerely praises them and gives them their well-deserved recognition from their successes and the worst thing she will do in punishing them for their incompetence being whacking them with her staff. Their relationships with one another proved to be a harmonious one as despite rare occasions of Bandora's minions plotting behind her back, it is for their personal issues and never outright treasonous. Such dynamic arguably backed by her vast magical power in which none of her underlings dared to challenge, let alone question it. She also at times displays a humorous eccentricity, breaking out into her theme song, "Dora! The Song of Witch Bandora" whenever things go in her favor or going on a crash diet to the point that she couldn't even properly use her magic.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Virtual Immortality: Witch Bandora survived for several million years in an enchanted urn, seemingly asleep during her imprisonment.
  • Teleportation: Witch Bandora could teleport to any location at will by fading in and out of existence.
  • Mistress of Magic: Courtesy of Dai-Satan, Witch Bandora was shown to be skilled in the fields of magic. Most notable among her magic arsenal was her power to enlarge monsters and other beings with her DoraSceptre.
    • Monster Creation: Witch Bandora could chant spells to create monsters out of objects. However, she only used this power once to create the Magic Spinning Wheel since she preferred to use Pleprechaun and his Nendora Machine.
    • Dai-Satan Summoning: Witch Bandora's darkest and most dangerous spell that summoned her master to Earth using the souls of 13 children and a big tower.
    • Curses: Witch Bandora was also adept at casting curses on her enemies, as she was able to immobilize Dragon Caesar with dark magic during the battle against Dora Artaeus.

Weaknesses[]

  • Dai-Satan Summoning Spell: Witch Bandora's original summoning of Dai-Satan to Earth nearly killed her and caused her temporary blindness, causing her to bleed from her eyes.
  • Physicality: Despite her empowerment by Dai-Satan, Bandora is still only as physically fit as an average human woman in her prime, thus leaving her succeptable to hunger and exhaustion. She was demonstrably unable to perform any magic when starved to the point of weakness, and still required regular sleep.
  • Crying: The magic granted to her by Dai-Satan was only permenant as long as she never cried real tears.

Arsenal[]

KSZ-DoraSceptre

DoraSceptre

  • DoraSceptre: Bandora's signature main weapon was a large sceptre which had many abilities. It was often used as a conduit for her dark magic, but was just as often used as a blunt instrument to hit her minions whenever she was frustrated.
    • Energy Blasts: Bandora could fire a pink beam of energy from her sceptre which explodes on contact. This were powerful enough to destroy the irn that she and the others were trapped in for 10,000 years and obliterate the Land of Despair with one shot.
    • Monster Enlargement: Bandora's primary ability with her sceptre. By chanting "Evil spirits that sleep within the Earth... Grant your power to (Dora Monster)!" and throwing her wand to Earth, Witch Bandora could open a giant chasm in the ground, upon which would emit a smoking energy which gave her minions enough energy to grow.
    • Growth Lightning: Bandora could use her magic via her sceptre to corrupt Lamp Fairy Gin into Dora Gin.
      • Growth: Turning Lamp Fairy Gin into Dora Gin also made him into a giant.
    • DoraBike: An enchanted Penny-Farthing-styled bicycle that allowed Bandora to quickly travel beween the Moon and Earth, as well as allowing her to move through the skies. The Dorabike is seemingly for Bandora's own amusement, as she more than once demonstrates the ability to teleport without it.

Behind the Scenes[]

Portrayal[]

  • Witch Bandora was famously played by the late Machiko Soga who also played Queen Hedrian in Denshi Sentai Denziman and Taiyo Sentai Sun Vulcan as well as Heavenly Arch Saint Magiel (which was her final role before her death). She also voiced Bandora's counterpart Rita Repulsa in the Japanese dub of Power Rangers.
    • When Saban Entertainment commissioned additional Zyuranger footage, colloqually known as Zyu2, to be shot for further Power Rangers production, Soga was brought back to create more footage of Bandora to use for Rita Repulsa. Particularly, Soga made the effort to mouth Rita's catchphrase "Magic Wand, make my monster grow!" for the newly shot footage.
    • Although Magiel and Bandora had no connection besides the same actress, Magiel's counterpart was made to be a reformed Rita Repulsa as a tribute to Soga who died whilst Power Rangers Mystic Force was in production.

Design[]

to be added

Concept Art[]

Etymology[]

  • Her name Bandora is inspired by the Greek deity Pandora. Even the katakana spelling is nearly identical, save for the first character, which should be (パ, pa). The release of the Bandora Gang from the seal is a reference to the opening of Pandora’s jar (often mistakenly called “Pandora’s box”).
