Urgent Launch?! New Leader (急発進？！ニューリーダー Kyū Hasshin?! Nyū Rīdā) is the twenty-fourth episode of Gekisou Sentai Carranger.
Synopsis[]
A disagreement regarding the usage of the Carranger to help others makes Kyosuke force Minoru to become the leader of the team to force him to realize his point.
Plot[]
On a summer day, two boys are hunting cicadas on a tree until a Gorotsuki suddenly appears, taking the insect and telling them they should be studying. The Gorotsuki introduces himself as TT Terurin, Bowzock's smartest member.
At the Pegasus Garage, Minoru arrives at work complaining about the heat while fanning himself. He only encounters Kyosuke as the other workers are at the pool, leaving them to do the work as Minoru notices Kyosuke eating cold noodles while asking where his are; the Red noticing he ate another portion and apologizing for Minoru for being too hungry; Minoru yells at Kyosuke and starts strangling him for eating his lunch until Dappu rushes in alerting the duo of a Bowzock attack, forcing them to immediate head out as Carranger.
In the park, TT Terurin is calculating information from the homework of nearby kids; Red and Green Racer begin to attack but the kids block him, Kyosuke asks why they're trying to protect him, but the kid is not a bad Bowzock, actually helping them with their summer vacation homework, shocking the duo! TT Terurin continues to do the homework while Minoru calls him admirable, Kyosuke not buying it believing this is part of a scheme; but TT Terurin states he concentrate with their chatter leading to the kids to chase the Carranger away by throwing rocks at them! Kyosuke states they can't attack kids with Minoru agreeing they should also run, leading to the Gorotsuki happy he can do their homework but also asking the kids for a cold watermelon for himself, confusing them.
On the Baribarian, Ritchihiker states that TT Terurin is collecting watermelons for the Bowzock Watermelon Splitting Contest, Zonnette stating she loves that competition as he imagines her in a swimsuit choosing watermelons to smash and eat together while confusing her. Zelmoda calls Ritchihiker a pervert while Gynamo commends the idea stating that if Zonnette is happy, all of the Bowzock will be happy, complimenting the idea.
At Signalman's Kobaan Base, Ichitaro is watching over it while Signalman is complaining he's not good at the boy's summer math homework. TT Terurin drives by with flyers that Ichitaro finds as Signalman continues to worry.
Elsewhere, Kyosuke wonders why the kids are protecting a Bowzock while Minoru wonders why the kids don't ask the Carranger to help them do their homework instead! Kyosuke stops him asking if he really wants to help kids with homework which he confirms, imagining himself as Green Racer helping them out. Minoru reasons that if the Carranger are heroes, then heroes should help kids with the things they don't like, including homework! Kyosuke disagrees saying that the kids should do it themselves; Minoru wonders if Kyosuke ever got help with his and he said he didn't; when Minoru asked about things he didn't know, Kyosuke states that "no one knows everything, that's why homework exists". Minoru shows confusion while stating Kyosuke isn't compassionate enough, including the lunch element; Kyosuke wonders if Minoru still has a grudge as Green Racer adds that this is about the kids too; Kyosuke wonders if that's compassion while Minoru states that if you're a leader, you have to show a little compassion. Kyosuke takes offense as the two start arguing again and staring each other down as their friendship falls apart. Naoki, Natsumi and Youko soon see the duo arguing from a distance and approach them asking what happened; Kyosuke states that Minoru doesn't see him fit as a leader; when Minoru denies it, Kyosuke suddenly declares Green Racer as the new leader, confusing everyone! Minoru takes the request as he states Kyosuke isn't compassionate enough to protect the Earth as Kyosuke states he's already showing ego forcing him to the ground as the two wrestle, even throwing down their teammates as they fight each other beating each other up.
Later, Minoru gathers books as he declares to the team that helping kids is also in a hero's duty and that as Carranger's leader, he's wants them all to help kids with their homework; but the others state he should do it on his own, not making any sense as Youko and Naoki run away and Natsumi gets back to work. Minoru searches for Naoki as he states on the side he never liked doing homework.
Elsewhere, Kyosuke ponders on the Earth about Minoru's words about compassion, calling him an idiot but hurting himself as he kicks himself. Kyosuke soon sees flyers fly by, picking one up. At the same time, Minoru worries that no one wants to help him help the kids wondering if anyone has compassion. He returns to the park where he doesn't see the kids but does find a flyer, revealing the "homework for watermelon" scheme of the Bowzock. He heads to an abandon factory as he sees TT Terurin complaining that all the kids brought him pre-sliced watermelon, revealing that it can't be used for watermelon splitting contests; Ichitaro complains as TT Terurin decides to turn all the kids into watermelon instead, making Ichitaro imagine TT Terurin planting them preparing to smash them up which all the kids deny wanting as the Gorotsuki traps them in a cage stating it will be fun. Ichitaro commands the kids to cry on demand to have someone rescue them, but TT Terurin states it won't help which the boy agrees with. Minoru sees the scheme and decides to get the Carranger to help them but Naoki states he's exaggerating as everyone keeps thinking this is about helping kids with homework! Minoru worries why no one is showing up but stops himself when he realizes he's yelling drawing TT Terurin's attention! A squad of Wumpers attack him as Minoru tries to transforms but fails as he drops the transformation key and is chased by the minions.
Kyosuke soon arrives wondering about why the Gorotsuki want watermelon as he finds Minoru's key and Green Racer screaming nearby as he's being pummeled, forcing him to rescue him and return his key. TT Terurin fires eyebeams at them as the two are chased away and are forced to hide. Minoru compliments Kyosuke for nicely returning his key, Kyosuke asks what's going on as he grabs Kyosuke's hand wondering about how compassionate he is in helping him, stating he was selfish only thinking about kids instead of his own teammate; Kyosuke states it was only due to the flyer but Minoru states he was shy as Red Racer tries to get away from him. The duo are suddenly attacked by TT Terurin and the Wumpers; Kyosuke's summon allowing the other Carranger to finally join the battle. Back with Kyosuke and Minoru, they trip up the Wumpers as Kyosuke pummels them and Minoru drops a bucket smashing them on the head unconscious, Minoru complimenting Kyosuke as a true leader and reaffirming their friendship. Declaring they'll save the kids, the two transform as TT Terurin threaten to take the kids to the Baribarian, Ichitaro deciding to have the kids cry again as the Carranger arrive in Pegasus Thunder zapping the Gorotsuki on the ground before Dragon Cruiser hits him on the ground. Naoki compliments the duo for making up as Kyosuke states they're like brothers fighting all the time and stating the trio were worrying about them as they hide their intentions of what they're talking about. The Carranger soon fight the Wumpers as Naoki's team head to get the kids while Kyosuke and Minoru deal with TT Terurin and his Wumpers. The Gorotsuki fires eyebeams at them but the duo hit him from above and below and then use their weapons to strike him down for breaking their friendship as Kyosuke stops him with the Twin Cam Crash. Desperate, TT Terurin eats Imocho imo youkan to grow; the Carranger clear out the kids as TT Terurin starts destroying the city and the team summon the Ranger Vehicles and form RV Robo. The team use the RV Naniwa Kick and the RV Spinning Watermelon Split before finishing the Gorotsuki with the Gekisou Cut.
Later, the Carranger are eating watermelon as Kyosuke takes the last slice, he gives it to Minoru who tries to give it to Minoru; Minoru states he's the leader so he should have it but Kyosuke worries about Minoru's lunch earlier but Green Racer says he doesn't worry about it; Kyosuke said Minoru shouldn't hold back which Green Racer says he isn't as he wonders if Kyosuke understands his feelings but the two start arguing about feelings and who should be leaders, Minoru states that if he has no empathy, he shouldn't be leader as he leaves, the two wondering if they're really brothers. Ichitaro steals the watermelon stating he will if they won't, making Signalman compliment him and the Kyosuke and Minoru collapse in defeat.
