Undercover Rangers is the thirty-first episode of Power Rangers Time Force.

Summary[]

The Power Rangers go undercover at a gym to discover that Frax is using it as a front to turn its customers into robots. With help from Eric, the team must defeat the mutant running the gym, and rescue the customers.

Plot[]

Katie and Trip are out getting groceries when they witness a man representing the Super Strong Gym promoting a special protein drink that will grant anybody enhanced strength instantly. A scrawny man named Mr. Feeney in the crowd insists that it's just another rip-off. The promoter offers him a sample of the protein drink, and upon consuming a small amount, Mr. Feeney easily lifts a 500-lb. barbell. Katie and Trip are shocked, with Trip stating that the man is as strong as Katie. The excited crowd clamors to sign up for the gym as Eric arrives and watches with a skeptical look.

Jen watches a newlywed couple at their wedding ceremony and contemplates her relationship with Alex. She acknowledges how both she and Alex have changed significantly over time, and realizes that she doesn't love Alex the same way that she did before. Jen states to herself that she now has feelings for somebody else.

At the Clock Tower, Wes is frustrated that he may never be like Alex, but hopes that Alex's cold treatment of Jen recently may allow him to win her over instead. Jen returns and asks Wes what he is doing, and he replies that he wasn't doing anything. The two of them become too nervous to even talk to each other and just awkwardly laugh and stand around. Wes finally says that he wants to speak with Jen about something, and she says she wants to speak with Wes as well. They once again become too nervous to say anything and just ask each other to speak first. Lucas grows annoyed and says that one of them has to go first. Wes starts to speak up when Katie and Trip return. They tell the other Rangers about the scrawny man and the weird protein drink. Jen suggests that two of them should go into the Super Strong Gym undercover and investigate. Trip volunteers to go undercover, but Lucas insists that Jen and Wes should go instead.

The gym owner encourages his customers to keep drinking their protein drinks so they can grow stronger. Mr. Feeney continues to consume the protein drink and lift heavy weights easily until the owner tells him his training is complete. Mr. Feeney behaves strangely and moves with in a robotic manner as he is taken to another room. Jen and Wes enter the gym wearing stereotypically nerdy attire, and Wes tells the woman at the front desk that they want to join. She gives them an application and introduces herself to Wes as Theresa. Wes introduces himself as Albert, and Theresa suggestively touches his arm and tells him that he is already super strong. Wes flexes his bicep in front of Theresa, making Jen angry. Jen notices a gym employee leading a customer into a back room and decides to follow them.

Jen snoops around, and discovers that the customers drinking the protein drink are being turned into robots. A male gym employee finds Jen and captures her. Frax reveals himself as the mastermind behind the whole plan, and the gym owner informs him that they have an unwelcome visitor, referring to Jen. Frax sees right through her disguise and decides a Power Ranger would be a perfect addition to his army.

Wes notices Jen's absence and tries to find her. He encounters the same employee who captured Jen and asks where she is. Wes hears Jen scream for help and fights the gym employee, who turns into a Cyclobot and attacks him. Wes reaches Jen just in time to save her from being turned into a robot. He frees her and they make a run for it. Frax sends his minions after them. Jen scolds Wes for taking so long to find her and accuses him of flirting with Theresa. Wes teases Jen by suggesting that she is jealous. Gym customers find the two Rangers and attack them, but Jen says they cannot fight back as they are just innocent people and not robots. Outside, they are stopped by a squad of Cyclobots. Eric shows up just in time and blasts them, and says he knew the Super Strong Gym was up to no good. Jen thanks Eric and purposefully touches his arm in a suggestive manner, annoying Wes. The gym owner appears once again and reveals his true identity as the mutant Mechanau. The three Rangers morph and battle Mechanau, who levitates them and slams them into each other. Trip, Lucas and Katie arrive and save their teammates by blasting Mechanau with their V Weapons.

Mechanau proves to be too strong for all six Rangers, and Circuit calls on Alex for help. Alex see Jen in peril and contacts Wes. Alex tells Wes that he is sending a new weapon called the Strata Cycle, and tells Wes that he must protect Jen in his absence. Wes tells Alex not to worry and that he can count on him. The Strata Cycle is launched through the time gate, and Wes boards it. Mechanau continues to overpower the other Rangers until Wes arrives with the Strata Cycle. The others watch in awe as Wes makes quick work of Mechanau. However, the mutant is not out yet, and grows into a giant.

The Zords are called, and Mechanau uses his levitation powers again to slam the Q-Rex into the Shadow Force Megazord. The Zords get their bearings and Wes executes the finishing move on Mechanau, and the mutant is captured. The innocent people in the Super Strong Gym are freed while Alex, though relieved that Jen is alright, turns away and shakes his head when Jen compliments Wes.

Back at the shop, Jen is grateful to Wes for saving her during the battle. Wes says that he can't take all the credit, and reveals that Alex was responsible for providing the Strata Cycle because he wanted to keep Jen safe. Wes states that Alex is a great guy despite his tough nature, and that he and Jen make a terrific couple. Jen tries to tell Wes what she wanted to speak to him about earlier, but they are interrupted by Mr. Feeney, who is looking to hire a personal trainer to do proper weight lifting. The other Rangers say that Jen and Wes are the perfect people for the job. Jen and Wes try to protest, saying that they've had enough weight training for one day, but the others don't let them get out of it.

Cast[]

Errors[]

  • It is not explained how Frax managed to acquire a mutant to use in his plot.
  • At one point, during the fight against Mr. Mechanau a camera man, and his camera can be seen reflecting off the purple on his chest.
  • It appears Alex had just now returned to the future.

Notes[]

  • The first episode to air after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. This would result in all previous episodes getting re-edited to remove building destruction.
  • This marks the first appearance of the Red Ranger's Strata Cycle.
  • The beginning scene where the "gym instructor" says "Ah, a nonbeliever", talking about the young man who calls him a ripoff, is an homage to Zordon telling Zack Taylor the same thing in "Day of the Dumpster".
  • Robert Axelrod who's known for voicing Lord Zedd and Finster cameos as a Thin Man in Mr. Mechanau's gym. This is also Axelrod's final appearence in the Power Rangers Franchise before his death 18 years later.
  • Vernon Wells (Ransik), Kate Sheldon (Nadira) and Edward Albert (Mr. Collins) don't appear in this episode.
