Toei TV Hero Encyclopedia Vol. 2: Choujin Sentai Jetman (東映テレビヒーロー図鑑 VOL. 2 鳥人戦隊ジェットマン Tōei Terebi Hīrō Zukan VOL. 2 Chōjin Sentai Jettoman?) is a recap special of Choujin Sentai Jetman, the second of its kind following a similar specialIcon-crosswiki dedicated to Kamen Rider BlackIcon-crosswiki. An hour in length, it saw a happily married Ryu Tendo (Red Hawk) and Kaori Rokumeikan (White Swan) reminiscing about their time as part of the Jetman team defending Earth from the invasion of Dimensional War Party Vyram, with the bulk of the special being the couple taking turns narrating an overview of the events of Jetman with footage from the 51-episode series. It also added to the series' canon by establishing that Ryu and Kaori had a baby son following their wedding depicted in the series finale, which they named after their friend and fellow Jetman, Gai Yuki.

Continuity and Placement

  • The Tendos make note that it has been six years since the day Vyram began their invasion of Earth and the Jetmen were born via the Birdonic Waves. From this, this special can also be said to take place about five years after Jetman's final battle with Radiguet, and about two years after Ryu and Kaori's wedding.

Notes

GaiDeath

Gai Yuki's 'tiring' at Ryu and Kaori's wedding, depicted in the finale replayed in this special. Though implied, he wasn't explicitly confirmed to have died in the on-screen canon until Gokaiger.

  • Ryu and Kaori's wedding is seen again at the end of this special, complete with Gai's late arrival having been stabbed after saving a woman from a mugger. Though Ryu and Kaori's baby is named Gai, they do not refer to his namesake as either deceased or still alive, leaving confirmation of Gai Yuki's death on TV to Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger's Jetman tribute episode which featured his return as a ghost.
  • A manga sequel, Choujin Sentai Jetman: Toki wo Kakete, would give a different account of what happened five years after Vyram's defeat, reviving the fight with Vyram and confirming Gai's death. In contrast to this TV special, where Ryu and Kaori have a baby boy named after Gai, here they have a baby girl, named after Commander Aya Odagiri.
