The Curve Ball is the thirty-ninth episode of Power Rangers Turbo.

Synopsis[]

T.J. is stumped by a new kid, Heath, who has a nasty curve ball no one on the baseball team can hit. Divatox's newest monster, Strikeout, similarly has an unhittable toss. When Heath's egotistical showboating nearly gets himself killed, T.J. takes the effort to save him. Heath returns the favor by showing T.J. how to hit a curve ball, which might be essential for his rematch with Strikeout.

Plot[]

T.J. and Carlos are playing recreational baseball against another team of teens, who are currently tied 3-3. T.J.'s teammate asks him for batting advice against the current pitcher, but then gets a communicator alert from Alpha. T.J. and Carlos run to respond to the call, telling their team that they'll be right back.

Alpha tells them that the other Rangers are being attacked by Rygog and Piranhatrons and that they need to help them. They morph into action and come to the aid of their fellow Rangers, who are trying to prevent the enemies from stealing Storm Blaster. They fight off the enemies, who retreat in defeat.

T.J. and Carlos rush back to re-join their baseball game, just in time for T.J. to bat. He hits a home run just as a new teen arrives to join the opposing team. He is introduced as Heath and his team brags about his unhittable pitches. Heath challenges T.J. to try to get a hit off him, and T.J. accepts his challenge. He goes to bat again and Heath strikes him out, stunning T.J. and his team.

Later, at the Juice Bar, T.J. walks in reading a book about batting techniques. He apologizes to Carlos, Justin, and Ashley for not being able to join them for a movie later, but that he instead needs to go to the batting cage to practice.

Meanwhile, Bulk and Skull are working as groundskeepers at a baseball diamond and are tasked with running the chalk lines along the field. They accidentally into their boss, who reminds them how important it is to be precise. They accidentally cover themselves in chalk dust while trying to unsuccessfully pour it into the spreader.

During the next baseball game, Heath strikes out a disappointed T.J. again. Divatox is secretly spying on the baseball game and makes fun of T.J. striking out. She calls Porto, who brings her a new monster, Strikeout. Divatox reveals that she doesn't even like baseball, but she heard that he has an explosive pitch, and commands him to go attack the Rangers.

Back at the baseball field, T.J. commends Heath on his great pitch. His teammate asks Heath how to hit the pitch, but he refuses to tell them. Alpha calls T.J. and Carlos on their communicators and tells them that the other Rangers are fighting monsters in the park.

They morph into action and join their fellow Rangers and they confront Strikeout. He claims they can't hit his curve ball, and Justin says that he can handle it. Strikeout throws a pitch at Justin, who misses with his sword and the pitch knocks him down. T.J. then steps up with the same result, missing his swing and being knocked to the ground. Strikeout then promises to throw an easier pitch, which T.J. hits back at Strikeout with his sword, knocking the monster to the ground. T.J. demands that the monster not bother with his slow pitches and he asks him to throw another curve ball. Strikeout then proceeds to knock each Ranger to the ground with a curve ball, then retreats.

T.J. and Carlos head back to the baseball field where Heath is practing on their bikes, but Carlos has to head home. Heath catches up to T.J. on his bike, and arrogantly challenges him to a bike race. Not looking where he's going, Heath accidentally rides off the edge of a cliff and his bike crashes down the mountain to the rocky ground below. T.J. rushes over to Heath, who is holding on to the edge of the cliff by his fingertips. He pulls Heath back up, saving his life. Heath thanks him and tells him that he owes him, and T.J. tells him he doesn't owe him anything.

Later, while at the baseball field practicing, Heath reveals to T.J. the secret of hitting his curveball, by looking at his fingers to see which way the ball will curve, as a thank you for saving his life earier. Heath says that he'll only teach T.J. the secret. Carlos is then called by Alpha on his communicator and is told that the Strikeout monster has returned.

All of the Rangers except T.J. engage in battle, while T.J. is having batting practice with Heath, and he has learned how to successfully hit his curve ball. Alpha then calls T.J. on his communicator, and he morphs into action to help his fellow Rangers.

T.J., now armed with a red bat, challenges the monster to throw him his curve ball again. Strikeout throws one at T.J., who hits the ball with a powered-up spin. He connects and the baseball flies into orbit above Earth and explodes, to the excitement of the other Rangers and the disappointment of Strikeout.

Divatox then decides to make Strikeout giant, and the Rangers respond by calling the Turbo Megazord. Strikeout throws a volley of pitches at the Turbo Megazord, but T.J. initiates a Spin Out attack which knocks all the balls back at the monster, ending with a final slash that destroys Strikeout.

Elgar and Rygog, dressed in baseball attire, get yelled at by Divatox, stating that she never wants to see anything baseball-related ever again. Elgar and Rygog quickly throw off their baseball caps and accessories, and they hastily agree that they now hate baseball too.

During the next baseball game, T.J.'s teammate is up to bat against Heath, whose team is one out away from winning the game. T.J., keeping to his word, didn't teach anyone else the secret to hitting Heath's fastball, so his teammate is still struggling to hit it. Feeling bad, Heath runs over to the batter and teaches him the secret of how to hit his curve ball as an act of good sportsmanship, to T.J.'s delight.

Elsewhere, it is revealed that Bulk and Skull are still working on placing the chalk lines down on another field, but instead of a straight line they've made a zig-zag and are covered in chalk dust, to the dismay of their boss.

Cast[]

Songs[]

  • You Are the Power Team (instrumental)

Errors[]

  • Strikeout says to T.J., "You'll be lucky to even see this pitch comin' atcha, Ranger, much less hit it!".  This implies that T.J. would need less luck to hit the pitch than to see it; in other words, that he would have a better chance of hitting the pitch than of seeing it.  The correct way to word it would be, "...let alone hit it!".
  • When T.J. asks Heath if all he thinks about is winning and losing, Heath tells him, "Not winning and losing; just winning!".  He should have accentuated the word 'losing'.

Notes[]

  • Final time the Turbo Megazord destroys a monster.
  • This is the final time and any mention is made of T.J.'s love for baseball.
  • Cassie does not appear in this episode unmorphed.
  • Although Ashley and Justin appear in this episode, they only speak when morphed.
  • Dimitria does not appear in this episode, while Alpha 6 is only heard over the communicator.
  • T.J. is shown to be a left-handed batter, however when batting against Strikeout, he is batting right-handed which would imply he's a switch-hitter.
  • This marks the second attempt by a monster to block the Turbo Megazord's Spinout attack. However, out of three attempts, only two were successful, the first being when the Metallosaurus intercepted, countered and blocked the attack, and when Goldgoyle managed to survive a modified version of the attack.
