Save Our Ship is the third episode of Power Rangers in Space. It continued from the previous episode and continues into the next one.

Synopsis[]

The Power Rangers return to Earth with Andros to bond better with him along with Ashley spending time with Andros. Unfortunately, Astronema has followed the Rangers there and unleashes Ecliptor on them.

Meanwhile, Bulk and Skull team up with a nutty old scientist named Professor Phenomenus to prove that aliens do exist and are currently targeting Earth.

Plot[]

Andros, Carlos and Cassie are in their Megaship uniforms, watching morphed T.J. & Ashley train in the SimuDeck, which can create any environment the Rangers want. The two battle an odd stingray monster and a couple of Craterites. Once they're finished, Alpha 6 alerts them that Earth is within range. The four ex-Turbo Rangers are glad to be home. Ashley puts her arm in Andros' and plans to show him how much fun Earth can be.

Meanwhile, Bulk & Skull are aiming a telescope to the night sky, trying to discover a comet to become rich and famous. Instead, they spot Astronema's Dark Fortress, in all its partial green grid glory. Believing it to be a UFO, the bumbling duo pass out.

The Megashuttle departs from the Megaship with the Rangers inside, morphed and headed back to NASADA. Astronema watches and plots destruction from the Dark Fortress, when suddenly Elgar drops by. It seems Dark Specter sent him to help her out, and since whatever the Grand Monarch says goes, Elgar's going to be her new henchman.

Later, instead of the old Youth Center, there now stands a new place called The Surf Spot. It's the same building, except the inside is decorated with plants, surf boards and T-shirts on the wall, as well as billiard tables. The Rangers meet the owner, Adelle Ferguson, who suggests they try the fries. Andros wanders off by himself and fiddles with a surfboard, knocking it off the wall. Adelle prevents it from falling, and Andros questions what exactly it was. She asks what planet he's from, but of course she doesn't believe his honesty, so he heads over to sit with the others. Bulk & Skull are there also, looking through the newspaper. Bulk hogs the fries and milkshake, leaving poor Skull with a glass water. Andros doesn't like Bulk's greed and uses telekinesis to lift up some hot sauce and pour into Bulk's shake. Bulk drinks it and runs around with his mouth on fire, since Skull's waterglass is now empty. He swipes the Ranger teens' pitcher of water, and gulps eagerly. Bulk had found someone in the newspaper for whom they can explain their story about seeing a UFO to, but Skull is skeptical about telling this person. He blabs the details of seeing the Dark Fortress to the Ranger teens, and they know exactly what he's referring to. Bulk & Skull take off to tell this expert about their not so close encounter. The Ranger teens know they must get the supplies to fix the ship and get back into space soon since Astronema's lurking above the Earth already. As they leave, Ashley confronts Andros about his mindmoving trick on Bulk. He plays dumb and questions what a milkshake is.

Bulk & Skull go to the address of Phenomenus Ingenious, Inc. but all they find is a mailbox. It suddenly speaks, leading the goofy twosome to think the Professor lives in it. Upon mentioning the reason they're there is because they saw aliens, from behind a scientifically rigged up van comes speeding towards them. Out of it pops Professor Phenomenus, a short, balding, older yet apparently intelligent man, questioning them about what they saw in the night skies. He hands them lab coats similar to the one he's wearing, and a new friendship begins.

Elsewhere, the Ranger teens are coming out of Angel Grove electronics with the parts they need, when Andros detects they're being followed thanks to his hand-held Scanner. The teens are confronted by Quantrons, and battle them unmorphed. Andros realizes that the Quantrons are going after the Megashuttle, and the Rangers run off to NASADA to save their ship. The Rangers morph and have Alpha prepare the shuttle for lift off and evacuate the NASADA complex.

In front of the NASADA building, Professor Phenomenus' van gets a flat tire. His devices start going off, and it leads him towards the direction of the NASADA sign in the detection of aliens. Bulk & Skull think he's nuts and questions his status as a "world renowned scientist" for thinking the sign is an alien. Yet his motto of "Perhaps to the untrained eye" comes true as Quantrons suddenly teleport in front of it.

Meanwhile, The Rangers are mere inches away from the Shuttle when they bump into Ecliptor. Andros knows this dastardly green grid covered villain and knows he's big trouble. Ecliptor blasts the Rangers around, starting with a cyber-shadow attack. He plans to kill the Rangers and destroy the Shuttle, but first singles out his old enemy Andros and gives him quite a laser whipping. Luckily for Andros, his Spiral Saber proves powerful enough to bash Ecliptor across the yard and straight into a wall. The Dark Fortress fires beams down at NASADA, causing the entire complex to begin exploding into pieces. Wounded but claiming defeat, Ecliptor warp teleports out, and the Rangers have little time to rush to the Shuttle as explosions reign around them. Barely making it amid a firewall chasing them, the Rangers enter the Mega Shuttle, buckle up and are essentially chased back into space.

Once linked back with the Megaship, the Rangers quickly have to form the Astro Megazord as Astronema had the Satellasers aimed down on Ecliptor, causing him to grow in size. The Megazord swoops down through the atmosphere and lands on Earth, ready to take on Ecliptor. He puts up a good fight, and pulling some trickery by making it appear there are seven of him. Ashley uses her Lightstar helmet mode to scan for the real one, who's in the middle, and the Saber shatters his illusion with a laser whip mode. With Ecliptor dazed, another energized swipe with the Megazord Saber causes him to blow up into billions of little pieces.

Aboard the Astro Megaship and in their Megaship uniforms, the Rangers check out and repair the ship with the new parts bought on Earth. Once things have checked out perfectly, Ashley treats Andros to a game of billiards in the SimuDeck. He uses his telekinesis in front of her to lift up a cues tick, proving her suspicions from earlier. He reveals he has practiced many years on perfecting the craft of mental mastery. In exchange for billiards lessons, he'll teach her how to unlock the secrets of telekinesis, too.

Meanwhile, in The Dark Fortress, Astronema is plotting her next course of action. She comes up with a new plan involving beating the Power Rangers at their own game. She has Elgar, who is making himself useful by dusting, lock the Satellasers onto the sewers of New York City. It fires into a manhole and causes the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to teleport onto the streets of the city above. The five Turtles wonder how they ended up there, but they're sure it's bound to be something bad.

Notes[]

  • First appearance of Ecliptor, Adelle Ferguson and Professor Phenomenus.
  • During the "Previously on Power Rangers in Space" segment, an alternate, zoomed out shot of Andros saying "Let's Rocket" is shown, showing all of the Rangers instead of just Andros.
  • The Surf Spot debuts in this episode, replacing the Youth Center as the Rangers main hangout. It is not stated if Adelle took over and remodeled the Youth Center, or if the Surf Spot is on a different property altogether (although the Surf Spot is the Youth Center set redressed).
  • This episode kicks off Bulk and Skull's subplot for the season, as the two finally get permanent jobs as the assistants of scatterbrained Professor Phenomenus and set out to prove that aliens exist.
  • When T.J. and Ashley are on the SimuDeck, they pose while two bars appear reading "MegaYellow" and "MegaBlue". These were left in from the Sentai show it was adapted from, Denji Sentai Megaranger.
