Icon-biomanThis article is about an actor in Choudenshi Bioman.

Ryosuke Sakamoto (阪本 良介 Sakamoto Ryōsuke) is a Japanese actor who played Shirou Gou (Red One) in the 1984 Sentai Series Choudenshi Bioman.

He reprised his role in the film Gokaiger Goseiger Super Sentai 199 Hero Great Battle (2011). He reprised Red One again the next year in Kamen Rider × Super Sentai: Super Hero Taisen, voice only this time, as Red One did not appear out of costume.

On August 27, 2016, Ryosuke was told by his doctors that he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer and he would have to undergo surgery in September. As part of a moral support campaign, his fellow Biomen appeared to cheer him on. Michiko Makino and the Tokusatsu Network began a moral support campaign with the hashtag "#GoRedOne", where Super Sentai fans all over the world could give Ryosuke their messages of love, hope and support through this difficult time though various social media outlets.[1] On October 25. 2021, Michiko happily reported to fans that Ryosuke had beaten his cancer into complete remission as his doctor’s examinations showed he had been cancer free for 5 years in 2019.[2]

Notes[]

  • After his role in the Sentai series, Ryosuke had his first travel in the Philippines at 1991 and became one of the foreign volunteers to help the Filipino victims during the 1991 eruption of Mt. Pinatubo. This is also hinted during his one-on-one interview with other Filipino fans on April 4, 2021 which is 30 years later and was happily surprised that their Sentai show is also very popular in the Philippines along with Hikari Sentai Maskman.
