This article is about a/an movie reimagining of a series in the Power Rangers franchise. |
On May 7, 2014 a new Power Rangers movie was announced. It was originally reported to be a reboot of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and will be made by Lionsgate and Saban Brands.[4] Executive Producer Roberto Orci has since said that "It's got a continuity within the world".[5] However, he later left the project due to scheduling issues with Star Trek Beyond. The effects for the film will be done by Weta Workshop. [6]
Synopsis
From a story by Executive Producer Roberto Orci (TRANSFORMERS, STAR TREK, AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2) and screenwriters Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller (X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, THOR) comes a modern reinvention of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of ordinary high school kids who find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers and must harness those powers as a team to save the world.

Notes
- A street sign has been spotted on set that says Ocean Bluff Rd.[19] This is a reference to Jungle Fury, which was set in the city of Ocean Bluff.
- Sam Scott mentions "Mariner Bay", this is a reference to a location in Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue.
- The credits on the poster and the film state "Based upon "Super Sentai" created by Toei Company Ltd".[20] The television series always just credits the counterpart Sentai (which in this case would be Zyuranger), this is the first time the franchise as a whole has been namechecked. There is also a credit saying "Based upon "Power Rangers" created by Haim Saban", again, not specifically naming Mighty Morphin.
- References to other super heroes like Spider-Man, Iron Man and Bumblebee are made throughout the film.
- Mr. Kwan and Colt are not named in the credits. However other sources name them. Mr. Kwan is namedropped by his actor Patrick Sabongui and the Angel Grove companion site names Colt in a report on Billy Cranston.
- Krispy Kreme, one of the largest partners for the movie, is also front and center in the film as the location of the Zeo Crystal is deep under its Angel Grove location.
- Multiple lines are lifted straight off Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, such as Jason saying "It's Morphin Time", Zordon telling the Rangers the rules of being a Ranger and Rita saying "Make My Monster Grow!"
- As Rita floats away into space, the moon is shown in the background, which in the TV show is her base of operations.
- The movie makes use of "Go Go Power Rangers" by the Power Rangers orchestra, as heard in the original movie's soundtrack.
- The movie is notable for being the first big budget superhero film to feature an LGBT hero (Trini) and another on the autism spectrum (Billy).
