"Mastodon! Lion Thunderzord Power!"
The Lion Thunderzord is the second Zord of the original Black Mighty Morphin Power Ranger Zack Taylor and his successor, Adam Park. It succeeds the Mastodon Dinozord.

[edit] Creation
When Lord Zedd came to Earth to usurp Rita Repulsa, he sent Pirantishead to battle the Rangers. During the first encounter, Pirantishead took control of the Tyrannosaurus Dinozord and the Dragonzord while freezing the other Dinozords. During this crisis. Zordon and Alpha 5, began work on the creation of the Thunderzords. By using the Dinozords as templates, they would use the "power of thunder" to transform the Zords into the "new Zords." The Mastodon was the template to create the more powerful Lion Thunderzord. Zordon explained to Zack that the Lion had "courage and strength". It did not share the same abilities as the Mastodon, but it was given greater armor and defense.
The Lion Thunderzord was part of the Thunderzord Assault Team, making up the forward component of the chariot. Primarily, the Lion Thunderzord would combine with the other Thunderzords to form the Thunder Megazord.The Lion would serve as the arms and the torso for the Zord. Also, the Lion could combine with the other Thunderzords and the White Tigerzord to make the Mega Tigerzord, the Lion forming the shoulder pads and back.

As Rito Revolto and a small contengent of monsters destroyed the Thunder Megazord, the Lion was lost as well, being a component of the Megazord.
[edit] Background Infomation
- The Lion Thunderzord originated as the Mythical Chi Beast Star-Shishi in Gosei Sentai Dairanger. This was the zord/mecha of ShishiRanger who was green, thus the Zord was green. However, as Tommy (the Green Ranger at the time) would not have had any new Zords at the start of the second season, the Zord was given to Zack. This became confusing since Zack was the Black Ranger and his Zord was primarily green. This of course is explained by the fact that the Shishi Ranger costume was never used for Power Rangers.
- As part of the Thunderzord Assault Team toy set in 1994, the Lion's face was painted black over its green parts to better fit with being used by the Black Ranger.
- No explanation in the show was given as to the unusual use of color.
- It is modelled after an Imperial guardian lion, the type that is found in most Chinese temples, museums, government offices, etc.
