For Cryin' Out Loud is the fifth episode of Power Rangers Zeo. It marks the first appearance of the Zeo V Power Sword.

Synopsis[]

As a school project, Tommy and Kat must pretend to be married. And to make the exercise even more realistic, Kat brings along Joey, whom she's offered to baby-sit for the duration of the experiment. Joey's crying is driving the teens nuts, but when King Mondo sends Boohoo the Clown to amplify the baby's wail, the effects are devastating. If the Power Rangers can't get the child to stop crying, he'll lay waste to Angel Grove!

Plot[]

The episode begins with Jerome Stone trying to put ketchup on his burger before wondering where Bulk and Skull are. Bulk told Skull that they have to hurry, and that Lt. Stone said that if they're not at the Juice Bar by three o'clock, he'll have a special assignment for them. Skull told Bulk to don't worry and that nothing was getting in his way. Along the way, they were stopped by construction workers telling them to go back. Skull tried to make his own shortcut, but it backfired, and they crashed into Lt. Stone's table, and he looks at them in a disappointed manner. He gave Bulk and Skull their special assignment at Angel Grove High: textbook distribution.

Tommy and Kat are given an assignment where they must pretend to be married, much to the amusement of the other Rangers. Kat brings a baby boy named Joey, the child of her neighbor, to make the assignment more realistic. When Joey starts crying, all the other Rangers try to leave, though Kat makes Tommy stay.

After the Machine Empire saw this, King Mondo said that it gave him a magnificent idea and Queen Machina asked him to tell her all about it. King Mondo explained that Joey's normal cry has such a disturbing effect and he asked them what they think would happen if they increased his volume and Sprocket answered it by saying that he'll get louder. After an argument between Orbus and Sprocket, King Mondo tells them to be quiet and that Joey has the ingredients that they need to destroy Angel Grove. Klank and Orbus suggest they send Boohoo the Clown and that they also said that he's good with children and King Mondo agreed.

After Tommy and Kat put Joey to sleep, Boohoo the Clown appeared, and increased Joey's cry so it will be devastating to Angel Grove.

The next morning at Angel Grove High, Bulk and Skull stopped Tommy and Kat by saying that the computer lab has been designated as a no-cry zone. Kat told Bulk that Joey's asleep and that if he starts to cry, she'll take him outside. Tommy tried to stop Rocky from waking up Joey, but it was too late as Joey started to cry more louder than usual. Tommy stopped him by giving him his bottle and Rocky said that Joey's crying could elevate the terrible twos to a whole new level. Billy asked Tommy to go with him back to the Power Chamber and see if Zordon knows anything about their situation and Kat said that she and Rocky will take Joey somewhere less to destroy.

At the Machine Moon Base, Prince Sprocket said that his plan is working, but Klank and Orbus have a disagreement, leading to an argument. After King Mondo stopped the argument, he asked Queen Machina if the plan was his, and she agreed. King Mondo also said that now that the argument is settled, they know that the plan works, so he will have Boohoo the Clown return and increase the destructive power of Joey's crying.

Meanwhile at the Power Chamber, Billy told Tommy that the sonic frequency of Joey's scream was digitally captured by their satellite communications transceiver, so he was able to sample it and create a continuous loop for research purposes. Tommy asked what he was talking about, and Billy told him to cover his ears. After listening to it, Zordon said that the frequency and amplitude of Joey's cry had been altered and Alpha gave them the before and after frequency comparison. Tommy said that the frequency was off the chart and asked them how King Mondo did it and Billy said that if they can figure it out, they might be able to reverse the effects. Tommy said that until then, they have one dangerous baby on their hands.

Outside, Tanya and Adam arrived and asked how Joey was doing and Kat said that as long as they keep Joey from crying, they'll be fine. Adam said that they can't keep a baby from crying very long and Rocky agrees. Boohoo the Clown appears and said that crying is the one thing he loves about babies, and he told them to wake Joey so he could give him a big wail. Kat told Tommy to meet her quickly.

Back at the Power Chamber, Alpha tells Tommy and Billy that Boohoo is giving off the same frequency as Joey and Billy tells Tommy that he'll have to destroy him if Joey has any chance of returning to normal. Tommy arrives to help the others and Boohoo said that now that the game's over, they'll just play, prompting the Rangers to morph, and Tommy tells Kat to watch Joey. Alpha arrived and told Kat that he'll watch Joey while she helps the Rangers. The Cogs messed with Alpha's circuit boards and took Joey to a power plant, where they hope to use his cry to destroy the plant.

Back at the Machine Moon Base, King Mondo tells Klank and Orbus to meet Boohoo and Joey at the power plant and Klank said that they'll depart at once. King Mondo also said that according to the plan, Joey will destroy Angel Grove's main source of power and the Rangers at the very same time.

Meanwhile back at the Power Chamber, Billy repaired Alpha and Alpha tells Kat and Tommy what happened. Kat told him that there wasn't nothing anybody could have done, and Tommy asked Billy if he had any luck locating Joey. Billy said that he won't be able to get a lock on him until he cries again.

The Rangers arrive to the power plant and battle the Cogs, though Tommy goes after Joey. Tommy saves the baby just as he's thrown off the edge of a catwalk, and Billy is able to teleport him to the Power Chamber. The Rangers are then able to call their Zords and defeat the monster, restoring the baby's crying to normal.

At the Machine Moon Base, Queen Machina told King Mondo that the plan didn't go very well at all and he told her not to worry and that they'll have a more diabolical device next time. Prince Sprocket said that they should've used his plan, prompting an argument between him, Klank and Orbus.

Meanwhile at Angel Grove High, the Rangers are happy that Joey is back to normal, and Tanya asked Kat and Tommy what they are going to do, and they replied with sleep. Mr. Toggle appeared and was proud of their reports and he trust they discovered that taking care of a family isn't as easy as it looks. Tommy said that it had its ups and downs and Kat said that she's looking forward to having kids of her own. Mr. Toggle assigns Tommy and Kat to babysit his twins on Saturday night.

  • Boohoo claimed that Tommy's attack with the Zeo Five Power Sword missed him when it clearly hit. Also, he was on his feet after this but was then shown lying down after Klank threw Orbus.

Notes[]

  • This episode aired the same day as Saban's Masked RiderIcon-crosswiki episode 19, Battle of the BandsIcon-crosswiki.
  • First use of the Zeo Laser Pistols in their advanced mode which is formed from the Zeo Power Pod swords and pistols to enhance the blasts.
  • First time the shortened morph sequence is shown whereby we see a shot of Tommy being suited up in his Ranger suit before being followed by a four-way split screen of the other four Rangers being suited up but not with their unmorphed faces shown.
  • Tommy's morph in this episode uses a unique shot (showing Tommy's hair untied) which did not appear in any other episode.
  • Billy's teleportation color is shown to be a white in this episode (this being the first time he has teleported on-screen since stepping down as a Ranger).
  • The Zeo Megazord fight was used in a PC game Power Rangers Zeo PowerActive Words.
  • This was one of the few episodes that one of the core five Zeo Rangers was referred to by their color, as opposed to their Zeo designation number; Boohoo referred to Tommy simply as "Red Ranger" while pursuing him; however the Gold Zeo Ranger who appears later in the series would always be referred to by his color.
