The Prince Dies in a Duel (皇子決闘に死す Ōji Kettō ni Shisu) is the thirty-ninth episode of Chouriki Sentai Ohranger. It is the first of a three-part story involving major changes within the leadership of the Machine Empire Baranoia, focusing on a duel between Bomber the Great and Buldont and its aftermath.
Synopsis[]
Bomber the Great makes his move to overthrow Hysteria and Buldont and become Baranoia emperor, starting his reign with a scheme to use humanity's greed against itself.
Plot[]
As Shouhei jogs through the city, he encounters a boy named Shouichi and his family as he takes a break, stating that with Baranoia laying low, he's using the free time to get in shape but it's nice to help others too. Shouhei states that these days may seem peaceful, but as long as Baranoia continues to plot Earth's conquest, this was a calm before the storm. Shouhei curses Baranoia again before realizing he forgot the cucumbers chasing after a customer.
On the moon, the Barlo drag Buldont and Hysteria to Bomber the Great and kick both on the ground until the Baranoia traitor appears before them. When Buldont asks what he's doing and Hysteria wonders if he can get away with doing this to the imperial family, Bomber states of course he can as he has Acha read Article 2 of the Baranoia Constitution, which reads:
"In the event of the Emperor's death, a new Emperor must be installed within 100 days; and if there are multiple candidates, then the successor must be decided in a duel."
Bomber pronounces this as the 100th day after the death of Bacchus Wrath; the queen considers the comment mad but is slapped away as the ambitious missile states the candidates are himself and Buldont and thus by killing Buldont, no one will stand in his way of being Baranoia Emperor! Taking a sword, Bomber proclaims this is why he kept the duo alive up until now and gives a sword to the young prince as Hysteria is carried away. At Bomber's desire, the prince fights and defends himself, trying to fight back but failing to do so until he's knocked to the ground prior to the missile ramming into Buldont, destroying his body and leaving his head as his only remains! As Bomber proclaims farewell to the prince, Hysteria rushes to the head of her son, cradling it in her arms as she cries for the death of her son as his eyes blink in and out; his computer vision witnessing Bomber declaring himself Baranoia's emperor in name and reality as it shuts down and curses him out.
After Buldont's death, Bomber straps Hysteria to a missile claiming he's chivalrous and will not take a woman's life while forcing her to go to the end of the universe to hold a memorial for her dead son. At his instruction, Acha fires the missile as Hysteria screams, flying off into the unknown space. With the Baranoia royalty gone, Bomber declares to the Barlo he is the new emperor of Baranoia and they will return to conquering Earth, then take a long break once they have succeeded. Acha approaches the new "Imperial Majesty" and states that Earth has given them a lot of problems and wonders if Bomber is taking the mission too lightly; Kocha adding in they have the Ohranger. Bomber tells them not to worry since he has an amusing conquest method he is going to use on the planet. Revealing a small golden dog, he claims that this will be the end of the planet by it.
Later, a human version of Acha appears on Earth gathering a crowd as he has before him not a "beckoning cat" but a solid gold "beckoning dog" that, if stroked and states "I will be rich" with all your heart, will turn objects into gold! Surprising the audience, Acha states that the Beckoning Dog costs a mere 500 yen, starting a craze as everyone lunges for it before it's bought by Shouichi's mother. As Acha celebrates the plan's success, the woman returns to the produce market and tells her husband to close the shutters while the people from the display ram at the store to open up as she reveals the power of their new Beckoning Dog to him, Shouichi and Shouhei. The woman shows off the power asking the dog to make them rich, making her look ridiculous until she turns a pencil gold, shocking them while Shouhei reports to UAOH about the device and the possibility of Baranoia's involvement.
The other Ohranger soon arrive as they witness the populace ramming at the shutters before Shouhei sneaks Gorou and the others inside. As they enter, they discover the family turning all their objects in the house to gold, surprising them as they keep asking to be richer and the Beckoning Dog suddenly grows, turning their table gold! The family appears wondered and facing the jealousy of the locked-out people as they realize the dog grows and can make bigger things into gold with it's growth. Gorou suspects Baranoia behind the dog and tries to force the family to give it up but the mother worries they want to steal the dog; but their son worries that his mother is blinded by the gold and has changed due to her sudden greedy nature! The Beckoning Dog falls to the ground as the others of the neighborhood burst in trying to take the dog for themselves, fighting through the house as the Ohranger try to calm them down and the dog fires it's beam at random turning all the food to gold, shocking Shouhei and making the family surprised until the boy's father is turned to gold as a result, making the mother apologize before chasing the Beckoning Dog, as the neighbors and the Ohranger follow. Shouichi cries for his father, but Shouhei is likewise paralyzed as his legs are revealed to have turned to gold!
Shouichi's mother continues to run through the city with the Beckoning Dog with the neighbors and Ohranger also pursuing, the dog continuing to grow and turn bigger and bigger objects to gold attracting more people to follow. The Beckoning Dog soon becomes big enough for multiple people to plead to it as it turns an entire park gold, shocking the Ohranger with it's horrific power while they realize Shouhei isn't with them. Elsewhere, Shouhei tries to talk with his gold legs, having a hard time moving before the Ohranger are distracted by Camera Trick, who shows the Ohranger a broadcast from Bomber the Great who states he is now "Bomber the Great the First", the new Baranoia Emperor and declaring Buldont dead and Hysteria wandering the ends of the universe! Bomber states as emperor, the conquest of Earth is going to go different from prior as the Beckoning Dog continues to grow, Bomber stating humanity is empowering the power of the dog with their greed and once it's full of energy, it will turn all of the food and water on Earth to gold, making humanity die out as a result! Gorou curses Bomber for the tactic and they will stop it as they transform and summon the Blocker Robo, make them approach the Beckoning Dog as it is protected with a barrier. Summoning their weapons, the Ohranger continue to be blocked while Bomber claims that they forgot that it is greed empowering the Beckoning Dog and nothing can stop humanity's greed as the people on the ground continue rubbing it. As Blue Blocker tries to attack, the dog turns portions of it into gold, making it harder to move as a result. The Dog soon petrifies Pink Blocker's legs turning it gold as well.
In space, Hysteria is called by a mysterious voice reaching out for her coming from a head within a tube. The voice pulls a switch directing Hysteria's missile towards a new world, slowing their descent as they approach the planet and forcing them to blow as they hit a crater. Hysteria cries out for Buldont as she tries to retrieve his head as she wanders the barren world wondering where she is. The voice calls for the former empress and she questions who it is, following in the direction of the voice as she enters a cavern and discovers a mysterious laboratory where she finds the disembodied head of her husband, Bacchus Wrath! Hysteria cries for her husband as he states he's been waiting for her.
On Earth, the Beckoning Dog petrifies the limbs of Yellow Blocker leaving Red Blocker to fight as Gorou curses out how humanity's greed is causing so much suffering. At the same time, Shouhei is helped by Shouichi to move forwards despite his gold legs, struggling to get somewhere as Bomber declares the Earth as his, making OhRed curse him out as the emperor laughs.
