Rain is the third episode of Power Rangers RPM. It is the third part in the continuing storyline of Dillon becoming a Ranger. This episode marks the first appearance of Dillon as Ranger Operator Series Black and therefore the first use of the powers of Ranger Operator Series Black.

Synopsis[]

Dillon is given the chance to become the Black Ranger, but even after he passes all the tests, he himself still doesn't want to. After realizing he can protect others with the power he accepts the role, but he still has some obstacles to overcome.

Plot[]

Rangersuits

The suits of Ranger Operators Blue, Yellow, Green (currently offline) and Black in a glass casing.

The Rangers show Dillon around the Garage. Doctor K explains the creation of the Ranger powers. She was the leader of a research team three years prior to Venjix's attack. They were creating special armor that could enhance the ability of soldiers. During this research, they discovered a powerful energy grid that connected all living things. This discovery led to the creation of the Power Suits, which Dillon makes fun of them for appearing to be spandex. But Doctor K angrily corrects them, stating that it is not spandex, but techno-organic armor. Dillon wants no part in helping the Rangers and says that he has to be moving on. The Rangers remind him that he could go straight back to jail. They tell him about the trials that one would take to qualify to be a Ranger. Dillon is intrigued and agrees to undergo the tests.

The Rangers put him under a set of tests to test his endurance, strength, and stamina. Dillon aces the tests, however, Scott still is not sure if they can trust Dillon. Doctor K says that the Series Black Suit must go online before the next attack, but Dillon still doesn't want to be the Black Ranger.

Venjix creates a series nine robot named Water Hoser. He plans to send them to the cities' vents. with a mist that will weaken Corinth's shields.

The Rangers take him through a tour of the city. Where he sees families enjoying themselves in a picnic. Dillon figures that the Rangers are trying to convince him to fight for the people.

Dillion testing

Dillion undergoes the testing for the Ranger technology.

Dillon tells them that he failed somebody (who he can't remember) once and that the Rangers shouldn't trust them. Summer says that he is just the type of person she would trust. Dillon looks at two children playing with their families. He tells the Rangers he will join them on one single condition.

Ziggy gets led out of jail and happily greets the Rangers; Scott asks Dillon if this is actually his one condition as he wonders why Dillon would want Ziggy - "he can make shadow puppets" is Dillon's only reason, Scott being as he were expecting Dillon's reason to be one that makes sense.

At the garage, Dillon begins the procedure that represents his receiving of the Series Black powers: the Ranger Operator Series DNA Morph-bonding sequence - the moment he initiates the Rev Morpher's morphing function after loading the Morph Engine Cell of his newly-gained Morpher inside is the moment the Morph-bond begins; an onscreen schematic shows the bond process in effect and the Series Black suit teleports from its casing onto its now-assigned user; the Morph-bond procedure is complete - Series Black is now online. The other Rangers morph to join him. Ziggy gets excited and starts taking pictures, which annoys Doctor K. Before stepping away, Ziggy mentions the word spandex and winds up being assigned to wash the floor with a toothbrush.

PR RPM Rain

Dillon joins the Ranger Operators.

Scott shows Dillon to his room. Dillon listens to the music in his locket. That night he has a nightmare about someone from his past. He gets up and goes to Scott's car. Ziggy tells him of a way out of the city, but tries to get him to stay. Dillon takes off with Scott's car.

The Rangers are alerted to a Venjix attack and realize that Dillon took off with Scott's car - he is mad that someone else drove his car, which means one of the other Rangers will now have to give him a lift with their transports as the team head to battle the Grinders.

Dillon waits for the vents to stop so he can escape the city in Scott's car. The Rangers defeat the Grinders and face the Attack Bot for this episode, who is able to get away before he soon grows to a giant.

The Rangers run into another wave of Grinders and are overmatched. They try using their energy attacks, but can't destroy enough of the enemy and soon begin to lose their power before the wave is even defeated.

Ziggy rigs things at the lab so that Dillon will hear the Rangers' battle, via the radio. Dillon eventually has a change of heart and speeds to the battle scene, shooting out of the car upon a skid-stop arrival and morphing before the sight of everyone assembled around him and Ziggy's witnessing of the Series Black powers' energy level coming into view on the lab's screen is enough to tell him his rigging plan has worked, all before Scott, straight after Dillon's morph, warns Dillon about what he will do if Dillon ever harms, or has harmed, his car in the slightest. He tells the others to deal with the Attack Bot while he fights the Grinders himself - the other Rangers are worried he won't stand a chance against the massive wave which, in Flynn's guess, is formed by around hundreds or more but are won over and accept Dillon's offer, accepting only because they don't have a choice with the way things are now that the events have become a double situation.

They summon the Zords and form the Megazord. Dillon is able to hold his own against the Grinders despite their numbers. As the Megazord fight continues, the Attack Bot damages a bridge which the Megazord then holds together in response so cars can cross by. The Rangers then trick the Attack Bot into holding the bridge himself, leaving him instantly vulnerable to his destruction by the Super Saber.

Meanwhile, Dillon successfully finishes the 2nd Grinder wave at the same time the Attack Bot himself is finished. Scott asks him for a report that he gives about his own status before Scott reveals the report's actually for the status about his car, threatening Dillion that if he harms it in some way, he will be sorry - Dillon smartly says that he is okay, not mentioning the car at all which Scott asks him about again, but Dillon turns off his com-link and walks away in a show of ignorance, the newly-arriving Black Ranger showing a dismissive, unwilling and self-centered behavior.

Errors[]

  • Earlier in the start of this episode, the Series Black suit's casing light is on but then, at the time Dillon's Morph-bond with the Series' powers at the garage begins, viewers will need to watch the Series Black suit's casing, the first shot in this garage-set scene, carefully - the suit's casing light is off and then comes on instantly before the rest of the Series Black bonding scene is shown.
  • During the end of the recap, the way Dillon said "Do I get to pick my own color?" was different when he said it in "Fade to Black".

Notes[]

  • The Ranger suits' composition is explained in this episode; a small running gag debuts where Doctor K gets angered when they are referred to as 'spandex' - this gag is seen twice: Dillon is the first to make this gag earlier in the episode before Ziggy, straight after the Morph-bond of Dillon and the Series Black powers, asks Doctor K a question that is in a similar detail: "There is one thing I gotta know: what's with the spandex?" - as a result, Ziggy is subjected to a slight punishment which requires him scrubbing the floor with just a toothbrush in the garage.
  • This episode demonstrates how the Ranger powers seen in this series are partnered with their users: unlike the Chrono Morphers from Time Force in which the powers' DNA bonding with their users can be disengaged at any time for new users who bear compatible, similar or related DNA to stand in for or replace a previous user, the DNA bonding of this series' own Ranger powers is permanent - once a Ranger Operator Series is bonded to a user, the bond cannot be undone as the Series is now 'locked' with a user, meaning no new users can be guaranteed when the user the powers are joined forever with disappears without taking their RPM series Morpher with them or dies.
