A Parting of Ways is the sixth episode of Power Rangers Time Force. The episode continues to explore the strained relationship between Wes and his father, Mr. Collins (established in the series premiere), leading to Wes' eventual departure from his home to join the Time Force Rangers.

Synopsis[]

Nadira's latest mutant kidnaps a group of kids and holds them hostage for a $10,000,000 ransom. Wes asks his father for the money but he refuses to provide it and instead gives the same amount to some businessmen. Wes lies to the businessmen and steals the money to get the kids back. As usual, the villains don't keep their word and the Rangers must battle the monster to save the children. Once they have succeeded, Wes returns the money to his father. He then chooses to find his own path in life by leaving home to live in the Clock Tower with the other Rangers.

Plot[]

In an abandoned alleyway, the Time Force Rangers face off against Flamecon. Wes handles the Mutant alone, managing to strike Flamecon down with karate moves until knocking the latter down. With his back against the wall, Flamecon rips off his Mutant Patch and grows.

Circuit summons the Time Flyers from the year 3000, and they combine to form Jet Mode, the third mode of the Time Force Megazord. Creating a cyclone, they knock Flamecon around before changing into Mode Blue to strike with quick, heavy punches. After Flamecon is sent flying away, the Rangers change the Megazord to Mode Red, and Wes strikes with the Time Force Saber at full power, compressing Flamecon once more.

After the battle, the Rangers regroup at the Clock Tower as Wes looks out the window in thought. He tells Jen how shocking it is to have a future change without warning, such as being the Red Ranger for the team. When Jen comments on how Wes has become a great Ranger to the team, he pesters her about what she said. That leads Jen to change her opinion to get under Wes’ skin.

Later that day, Wes and Mr. Collins walk towards their limousine as the latter maps out his son’s plan for the future, including the University he wants Wes to enroll in. A baseball from a group of kids hits their limo, and Mr. Collins takes it away from them as punishment. But when Mr. Collins gives Wes the baseball to throw away, the latter gives it back to the kids once his father leaves.

In the Cryo Prison, Ransik gets a massage from the Cyclobots until they go too hard on his back. After pushing one aside and breaking their head, Nadira comes in with a plan to cause more havoc in Silver Hills. She plans to kidnap an important person and ransom them for cash, grabbing Tentaclaw from the freezer and having him reanimated. Recalling how Tentaclaw kidnapped a mayor back in the year 3000, Ransik sinisterly agrees to use Nadira’s plan.

Meanwhile, the kids who played baseball earlier are riding on a school bus until Tentaclaw’s octopus head comes in, declaring them his prisoners. Circuit alerts the Rangers of the attack, and the Rangers pursue the school bus in the Vector Cycles. Tentaclaw’s lobster body knocks Lucas and Jen off their bikes and lays a bomb on the three remaining Rangers to keep them from following them. Tentaclaw throws the Rangers a ransom note, telling them to hand over ten million dollars to the fountain at noon. Knowing what to do to get that money in time, Wes drives off while the rest of the Rangers find the kids.

Wes returns home and asks his father to loan him ten million dollars to free the kids. However, Mr. Collins refuses to give Wes that amount as he would rather the police handle it and not him. To frustrate Wes further, he sees his dad sign a check for ten million dollars for a company buyout he interrupted. Wes vents to Philips about how he does not know if following in his father is the right thing, leading the latter to ask if he wants to go on his own path. Wes says he does, and Philips urges him to follow his heart.

At the fountain, Tentaclaw has placed the kids and the bus driver in a forcefield prison until the meet-up. Nadira is unhappy that Tentaclaw kidnapped kids instead of someone important, but she decides to keep them around for her money.

Meanwhile, the other Rangers drive around the industrial area but have no luck finding the kids.

Elsewhere, Wes goes to one of the buyers from earlier and asks him to return the check, claiming that his father wrote the wrong amount. Wes morphs and drives to the fountain with a suitcase full of the amount Nadira demanded and hands it over to her. However, Nadira refuses to hold onto her end of the deal and orders Tentaclaw to destroy the kids.

Fortunately, Jen finds the school bus and shoots at Tentaclaw before he gets to the kids. The other Rangers join Jen as Wes fights off the Cyclobots before leaping onto his Vector Cycle. Using his Chrono Saber to swipe at Nadira, Wes gets the money back and drives off.

As the Rangers fight the Cyclobots, Jen gets apprehended by two as Tentaclaw inches his way towards the kids. Fortunately, Wes arrives and neutralizes the forcefield. With the kids freed, Wes sends them away and fights the Cyclobots with his teammates. With only Tentaclaw left, the former strikes the Rangers with his tentacles, knocking them down. Fortunately, Wes scans for them and slashes them off with the Chrono Saber. Tentaclaw leaves his lobster body to attack them, but Jen shoots him down with her V5 Blaster. Afterwards, the Rangers form the Vortex Blaster and compress Tentaclaw’s head. However, Tentaclaw’s body is still active, and he rips off his Mutant Patch to grow.

The Rangers summon the Time Flyers and form the Time Force Megazord Mode Blue. Although Tentaclaw charges as the Megazord with brute strength, the Rangers get the better of him and neutralize the lobster body with a full-powered blast from the Time Jet Blaster.

When Wes returns home with the cash, he returns it to his father, who is unhappy that he took the money without permission. Suddenly, reporters come into the mansion as they want to ask Mr. Collins questions about the ransom. Mr. Collins claims that he did use the money for the ransom to save face, but Wes interjects that the money would be placed for the children's home. Wes tells Mr. Collins that he will make his own future now and walks out of the house with a nod of approval from Philip.

Wes heads to the Clock Tower and asks the Rangers if he could stay with them. They agree and welcome Wes to his new home.

Errors[]

  • When Tentaclaw's body walks out of the chamber, its eyes are out, but before his head comes out the eyes are now gone.
  • Since Wes told his dad about Ransik, this practically, gives away who he really is. Yet Mr. Collins takes no notice of it.
  • When Tentaclaw's body is defeated it explodes, yet mysteriously in "Jen's Revenge", his body is seen with his head in his container, however, it’s possible this is because Tentaclaw's body was frozen by the Megazord and the Rangers put his head back on him before putting him back in his container.
