Zhane's Destiny is the twenty-fourth episode of Power Rangers in Space.

Synopsis[]

The Power Rangers investigate readings from a planet under a constant sandstorm. They discover it's also the current home to the former inhabitants of KO-35, who are staging a rebellion against Dark Specter's forces in secret. Darkonda is among them, in disguise as an officer, who tries to turn the Rebels against the Rangers, as well as unleash the Coralizer monster, which tries to turn the Rebels into coral. The Core Rangers destroy the monster with the Astro Delta Megazord while Zhane destroys Darkonda. With Coralizer gone, the Rebels affected by him return to normal. However, because Darkonda revealed the Rebels' location to Dark Specter, they are forced to evacuate immediately. Zhane decides to stay with the Rebels and help them for a while.

Plot[]

In their continuing search for Zordon, the Rangers go to the desert planet of Centaur B to scan for energy sources. Andros and Zhane are on the surface during a sandstorm, but visibility is low. The rest of the Rangers prep for a secondary expedition and head down to track the second source. During their search, Cassie, and T.J. spot something that resembles coral on a nearby rock formation confusing them as there is no water source nearby. Just before they can tell the others, two guards apprehend them and take them prisoner. Ashely and Carlos are taken prisoner as well by the leader of the soldiers, and he takes the four away.

Now in a cell, the four Rangers begin speculating about their situation. Realizing they are in an underground colony, Ashley deduces that this place is the source of the energy signatures, meanwhile Cassie peers into the infirmary and sees the coral growing on some of the wounded. As an obscured guard named Yatru provides an update to Dark Specter, they are ordered to destroy the four captured Rangers.

Dark Specter informs Astronema that the Red and Silver Rangers are still free on the planet and instructs her to destroy them. However, the thought of destroying Zhane makes Astronema conflicted as she still has lingering feelings for him. When Ecliptor requests confirmation, she gives the order to destroy them and heads to her quarters where she looks at her picture of Zhane. Quantrons and Ecliptor surround Andros and Zhane, but they manage to fight back despite the odds. Once they knock down a couple of Quantrons, the two run off.

Back in the caves, Yatru brings the captured Rangers to a colony elder named Kinwon. Yatru calls them spies and accuses them of being responsible for turning their people into coral. The Rangers plead that they were only searching for an energy source, and T.J. reveals their identities as Power Rangers. In an act of subterfuge, Yatru reveals a vial filled with a liquid that stimulates coral growth. Ashley accuses Yatru of planting the vial on her, but he declares the four guilty and attempts to order their execution. However, Commander Kinwon asserts that this wasn't a fair trial and passionately posits that throwing out their laws will give way to chaos. He places the Rangers' well-being on Yatru and the Rangers are sent back to their cell.

After the trial, Kinwon walks in on Yatru communicating with Dark Specter. He confronts Yatru, affirming that the four prisoners are in-fact Power Rangers and accuses him of being the true spy. However, Yatru says this discovery will be Kinwon’s undoing as the Coralizer drags him away.

Back on the surface, Andros and Zhane ask Alpha 6 for a location on their friends, but the atmosphere is too dense and the ship’s scanners can’t find them. They decide to head for the secondary energy source to track them from there. Back in the caves, the imprisoned Rangers free themselves from their cell and attempt to escape. Reaching a dead-end, they see Commander Kinwon has followed them and has been infected with the coral. Yatru confronts them and uses Kinwon’s condition as proof they were behind the outbreak. The colony unanimously declares them guilty, and Yatru plans to send the four up to their demise on the planet's surface. Just then, Andros and Zhane arrive and reveal their identities as Power Rangers. One of the leaders, Tykwa, recognizes them, and it turns out that the underground colonists are refugees from KO-35. Yatru still orders their execution, but the others don't draw their weapons now that they know the truth.

Now that Yatru has no allies, he summons the Coralizer to attack the KO-35 rebels, using his spray to turn people into coral. Andros and Zhane fight the monster as the guards release the others. Yatru runs away, but Zhane follows him as the other Rangers take on the Coralizer. As the Coralizer runs to the surface, Tykwa tosses the Astro Morphers to the Rangers, having confiscated them earlier. The five core Rangers morph and fight the Coralizer on the surface, overwhelming him. After being kicked off a cliff by Andros, Coralizer grows giant thanks to the Satellasers. The Rangers call on the Astro Megazord, but the Coralizer manages to put up a fight and shocks the Megazord with his tentacles. Andros calls for a Delta Megazord air-strike on the Coralizer, freeing the Astro Megazord from the tentacles.

Meanwhile, Zhane continues chasing Yatru and morphs for a confrontation, during which Yatru reveals himself as Darkonda, having been in disguise all along.

The Astro Delta Megazord is formed and they destroy the Coralizer with the flying Power Punch. With Coralizer’s destruction, the coral on the KO-35 victims disappears, and everyone makes a full recovery.

Back underground, Darkonda manages to separate Zhane from his Super Silverizer and delivers an overwhelming strike. A now-recovered Kinwon tosses the Silver Ranger his weapon and with it, Zhane overpowers Darkonda and destroys him yet again. However, Darkonda swears he will return as he explodes.

With the battle over, the KO-35 refugees celebrate as Kinwon thanks the Power Rangers for their help. However, now that Dark Specter knows where they are, the rebels are forced to evacuate to a new planet. The Rangers offer to help pack up.

Back on the Dark Fortress, Dark Specter informs Astronema what happened and tells her she must destroy the Power Rangers before he can absorb Zordon’s powers. Astronema promises she can do it and has the Quantrons set a course to Earth.

During the evacuation, Zhane reveals he will be staying with the rebels to help for a while. He says goodbye to the Rangers but promises to return to help them one day. The core Rangers return to the Astro Megaship and fly off to continue their search for Zordon, though Andros looks visibly distraught at the thought of leaving behind Zhane and his fellow KO-35 people.

Cast[]

Zords[]

Errors[]

  • At one point, Tykwa calls T.J. by name, but they were never introduced, and his name was never said in her presence.
  • When Zhane turns and hugs Kinwon, crew members, equipment, and the top of the set can be seen reflecting on Zhane’s helmet.

Notes[]

  • This marks the first appearances of Commander Kinwon and Tykwa.
  • Second episode after the events of the previous episode "A Date with Danger" in which Astronema demonstrates loving feelings towards Zhane, even she was briefly reluctant to order an attack against him after receiving instructions from Dark Specter. Later only Zhane again indirectly mentions the subject with Andros in "Dark Specter's Revenge".
  • When the Rangers except Zhane morph together after their Morphers are given back to them by Tykwa, no sort of morphing sequence or glow was shown, as it was cut immediately to them fighting Coralizer outside the caves after they have morphed.
