A U-Turn to the Stars ((スター)へのUターン Sutā e no Yū Tān) is the ninth episode of Gekisou Sentai Carranger.

Synopsis[]

Kyosuke quits the Pegasus Garage hoping to pursue his racing dreams, while encountering a peculiar Gorotsuki dish-cleaner who may be connected to Dapp's childhood racing hero.

Plot[]

Without warning, the Carranger face a giant BB Donpa in the city who is attacking them on the ground as Dappu sends out the Ranger Vehicles and the team form into RV Robo and summon the RV Sword to use the Gekisou Cut against him, destroying him with ease. However, the battle turns out to be a dream of Kyosuke as the president of Pegasus Garage is yelling at him to wake up as he attacks him with the Gekisou Cut and his office chair, leading to him being hit for his insolence. Kyosuke yells at his boss at hitting him as Youko warns the others of the fight; Kyosuke "fires" his own boss as he storms out for not wanting for his own company until he realizes that Kyosuke can't fire him and he inverses who gets fired. Kyosuke storms out of the garage, only rushing back to tell his partners to not try and stop him and he's serious this time about quitting and that he'll be at the park if they want to stop him. Naoki wonders what they should do as Minoru and Natsumi tell him to ignore what Kyosuke's doing and Youko agrees.

At the park, Kyosuke complains that he doesn't like how he's just repairing cars when that wasn't what he was hired for and justifies it as the reason he was napping. He reveals he was hired to be Pegasus' test-driver and that his skills are being wasted in such a position as he stares at himself at a lake and tells himself that it's annoying. Dappu suddenly appears besides Kyosuke with a drink and burger asking if he wanted to be a race car driver before confirming that was also the alien's dream as well, surprising Kyosuke. Dappu states there was in space a racer named Max, the Speed King, a star to all the kids of space but that he vanished one day; when Kyosuke asks how, the alien reveals it was after he was hit by a fireball during a race leading to him to crash into a vending machine, killing him. Dappu states that Max lives on not only in his heart but in the hearts of all the kids in space, making him tear up in his thoughts. He suddenly gives his burger and drink to Kyosuke, who worries about Dappu's state.

On the Bowzock satellite Baribarian, Gynamo hits on Zonnette wondering why she's depressed; the female is upset wondering why she let KK Esu, Bowzock's best washer, wash her car. In a flashback, Zonnette tells KK Esu to clean inside the car leading to it starting up and driving off with him stuck inside. In present day, Gynamo affirms that he always thought KK Esu was an idiot and he was finally proven right, making Zonnette state he's trying to be a know-it all and bashes him on the head with a bottle, making Zelmoda and Grotch laugh at the stupidity.

On Earth, Kyosuke sees a flash of light in the sky as Zonnette's car comes to a halt, KK Esu wondering if he's on Earth. He worries as he realizes he has to return to the Baribarian, but admits he doesn't know how to drive but that it will work out somehow. He turns the car on but it starts driving on it's own, making him run amuck in the streets as Kyosuke shows surprise while KK Esu admits it isn't working out as he thought it would. The Gorotsuki flails trying to drive yelling at Kyosuke to get out of the way, which he rolls away as he summons the other Carranger and transforms to deal with him. Zonnette's car continues to drive itself as KK Esu states that driving is scary before he's pursued by Red Racer's Speeder Machine; he asks if the Gorotsuki can't drive which it confirms telling him to put his hands on the wheel, his seatbelt on and sit up straight, making KK Esu realize he can drive after all and making him zoom away; Kyosuke states that the Gorotsuki is being carried away by his sudden confidence. As he drives, KK Esu realizes there's something nostalgic about his ability to drive as he has sudden memories of Speed King Max; but it stops as Zelmoda arrives in pursuit, making KK Esu crash into a vending machine.

Red Racer arrives on the scene as the other Carranger join him, but he notices that KK Esu is missing. As they find the Gorotsuki, KK Esu reveals he's not a Bowzock and that he is Max, the King of Speed, shocking them and even Dappu at the base. Kyosuke explains who Max is and his skills seem to match the famed racer as the Gorotsuki suddenly reveals that during his last space race, he got into an accident that blew him into a nearby planet. As he came to, he was discovered by Zelmoda and Grotch; seeing he was still alive, Grotch states they found a new washer for their cars and decide to erase his memories with the "Forgetfulness Water Gun", spraying him as they change him and using his lack of memory to turn him into "Bowzock's Washer", which he accepts without remembering his true identity; the Gorotsuki soon became the best car and dish washer. In present day, KK Esu reveals he truly is Speed King Max as he casts off his Gorotsuki identity; Kyosuke revels in how he's an idol to the children of space and he can't shatter the dreams of Dappu and those who idolize him, as Max thanks Kyosuke for helping him regain his memories and the two grasp hands in friendship and Dappu watches the event.

However the revelation is short lived as Zelmoda and Grotch attack, the general realizing that KK Esu was the famed racer Max. With the Forgetfulness Water Gun, Grotch fires it at Max while Zelmoda states they'll use his driving skills as a fighter as he throws the KK Esu outfit back onto him and orders him to "clean up the Carranger"; the Carranger try to stop him but he uses a "wiping attack" to wash away the Carranger from his body. Kyosuke tries to remind him that he is Max, the superstar of kids' dreams and he shouldn't be controlled by the Bowzock but he's once again washed away by KK Esu before they're attacked by a beam from his huge eye. Without warning, Dappu rushes to Max who states he hates him, stating he was his idol and that he always wanted to be like Max as the Gorotsuki looks at him confused. Dappu states once again he hates Max with his tears as Zelmoda states that Dappu has always been in the way and will be killed, launching himself towards the alien boy until KK Esu takes the hit instead, falling to the ground from the sword slash and once again becoming Max. As Dappu cries out for the fallen hero, Max falls to the ground as the alien cries hysterically. Zelmoda states that Max has regained his memory as Dappu cries, forcing the Carranger to redirect their anger towards Zelmoda, who sends out Wumpers the team bash their way through. Summoning his ViBlade, Red Racer collides weapons with Zelmoda as the duo face each other in combat until Kyosuke stabs Zelmoda's midsection but he states he's not done until Zelmoda starts headbutting him away. Zelmoda uses a running headbutt to finish it, but Red Racer unleashes a fury of "Piston Blow" punches towards the Bowzock general before punching him away with a Flying Attack. Calling for his mommy while bruised, Zelmoda is barely saved by Grotch with Zonnette's car, the duo riding away. The Carranger rush back to Dappu mourning the fallen Max, whom Kyosuke acknowledges as a true superstar.

That night, Dappu continues to mourn Max as he's held by RV Robo and the spirit of the fallen racer flies off, greeting Dappu as he gives his final goodbye to the heroic racer. Later, Kyosuke states he wants to be a great racer like Max; and admits that as frustrating as he may admit it, he can't quit the Pegasus Garage, satisfying his teammates. Later that night, the Pegasus boss grumbles at what happened to his workers as he repairs a car as Kyosuke approaches him stating he's staying at the garage but once again threatens to fire his superior, bringing out his ire as he threatens to hit Kyosuke with a wrench.
