This article is about a TV and film distributor in the Super Sentai and Power Rangers franchises. |
Shout! Studios, is an American home video and film distribution company. Founded in 2002 as Retropolis Entertainment, they began by distributing music and record labels, later expanding their operations to including classic movies and TV series from the 1980s and 1990s and beyond that have not yet been distributed in the DVD or Blu-Ray format. After a lengthy period under the name Shout! Factory, the company rebranded itself in 2023 to its current name.[1]
History[]
In 2012, Shout! Factory began touching Tokusatsu territory when they signed with Saban Brands to distribute Power Rangers on home media in North America. Through this deal, Shout! also acquired the rights to distribute other Saban properties, being VR Troopers, Big Bad Beetleborgs and Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation. In 2014, Shout! announced that they had signed with Toei Company to release Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger on DVD, and were the official distributor for Sentai in North America until 2019 when Saban sold Power Rangers to Hasbro until the release of Chikyuu Sentai Fiveman in DVD for 2022 confirming that the company is still the official distributor of the series.
In addition to the series itself, Shout! Factory has also released Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie and Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie on Blu-ray as part of its separate deal with 20th Century Studios (now part of former franchise owner Disney). Because of Shout!'s status as the series' home video distributor, these releases are co-branded with Saban.
TokuSHOUTsu[]
On March 16 2020, Shout! announced that they would stream Super Sentai shows it had already licensed on a new streaming service called TokuSHOUTsu along with the original 1971 Kamen Rider series, Kamen Rider Zero-One and Ultraman Leo on the following day on March 17, 2020. [2] The shows confirmed available at launch were Choujin Sentai (Birdman Squadron) Jetman, Ninja Sentai (Ninja Squadron) Kakuranger, Gosei Sentai (Five-Star Squadron) Dairanger and Mirai Sentai (Future Squadron) Timeranger.[3] Ninpuu Sentai (Enduring Wind Squadron) Hurricaneger soon joined the lineup afterward.
In addition to the TV shows, a talk-show titled Let's Talk Toku premiered on the channel, featuring YouTuber Squall Charlson as the host. The show would feature Jason Narvy as one of its guests and a "Backlot style" docu-series on the history of Power Rangers. The service also features live streams of Power Morphicon.
