Fighting Spirit is the twenty-seventh episode of Power Rangers Dino Thunder. This episode marks the first appearance of the Black Dino Ranger's Super Dino Mode as well as his past Ranger forms except for the Red Turbo Ranger.

Synopsis[]

Tommy falls into a coma, while trying to return visible and must face his former Ranger forms in a battle for his life. Meanwhile, the other Rangers must fight a new and improved White Terrorsaurus without their powers.

Plot[]

Tommy reveals to the other Rangers that Hayley has found a way to make him visible again, using his Dino Gem. Hayley reiterates that she's against it, as the risk is too high.

Meanwhile, Elsa uncovers a powerful crystal in the caves.

Tommy undergoes the experiment and is returned to normal, but put in a coma in the process.

Elsa presents the crystal to Mesogog. It has the same properties as the Dino Gems. The White Ranger clone presents his new White Terrorsaurus, which uses the crystal as a power source.

Hayley and the other Rangers bring Tommy to the hospital for medical treatment. A breaking news reports shows that the White Terrorsaurus is attacking Reefside. The Rangers run off to stop it.

Meanwhile inside Tommy's head, he finds himself in a strange place. He is surprised to be welcomed by Zeo Ranger V Red. Zeo Ranger V Red challenges Tommy to a fight for his life.

Meanwhile, Trent shows up to help against the White Terrorsaurus.

After defeating Zeo Ranger V Red, Tommy finds himself facing off against the Mighty Morphin White Ranger.

The White Terrorsaurus strips the Rangers of their powers.

Tommy uses some new moves to defeat the White Ranger. But then he must face his greatest challenge, the Mighty Morphin Green Ranger.

The other Rangers gain the courage through Tommy to take on White Terrorsaurus without their powers.

After defeating his past selves, the three Rangers come together and congratulate Tommy for his courage and return to him his Dino Gem.

The other Rangers are glad to see Tommy alive and well. The legendary Dr. Tommy Oliver is back in action. Tommy morphs into the Black Dino Ranger along with his newly uncovered Super Dino Mode to take on the White Terrorsaurus. The Black Ranger uses the Brachio Staff to defeat the monster. As the Terrorsaurus explodes, the Rangers powers are released and restored.

With the White Terrorsaurus now giant, the Rangers must call upon Super Dino Mode to give them strength. The Thundersaurus Megazord powers up and destroys White Terrorsaurus once and for all.

Tommy thanks the other Rangers for all their support.

Errors[]

  • When Tommy morphed in "White Thunder Part 3" he was wearing a cream-colored shirt over a black t-shirt, but when he is restored to normal in this episode he is only wearing the black t-shirt.
  • Both the Green and White Ranger's chest-shields are visibly falling apart throughout the episode.
  • The Green Ranger suit was infamously known for its inaccuracy. This version of the suit is immortalized in a Lightning Collection 2-pack that comes with a Putty Patroller figure.
    • The helmet shown in the episode has a silver trim along the dragon nose, but the original did not. This iteration of the helmet would later reappear in "Legendary Battle", though the miscolored part of the helmet is digitally edited in the episode and its extended version. A new helmet would not appear until "Dimensions in Danger".
    • The holster for the Dragon Dagger is on the wrong side, being placed on the right instead on the left. Also, instead of being all-black, the holster itself is white and looks similar to the holsters of the core Mighty Morphin team used to store their Blade Blasters. A new holster would not appear until "Legendary Battle".
    • The Dragon Shield featured the diamond shape on the back, but the original one did not. Also, despite it's made of a hard-foam rubber, the Dragon Shield and its armbands sport a matte coloring instead of a metallic one. A new Dragon Shield and armbands would not appear until Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always.
  • The news shows the monster in attacking the city, but the Rangers engage it in a quarry.
  • Even though the mineral is not shown absorbing the Rangers' powers, it restored them once it is destroyed.
  • Kira said, "You're alive" even though Tommy wasn't dead. He was merely in coma.

Notes[]

  • This episode aired on the same day as "Day of the Dumpster", just 11 years later. The next episode to air on August 28 is "Dimensions in Danger", the 25th anniversary special.
  • This was the second time that Zeo Ranger V Red has made an appearance after its series. The first one being in the Wild Force episode "Forever Red" which commemorates the 10th anniversary of the franchise.
  • Jason David Frank makes his first physical appearance in this episode since "White Thunder".
  • Final appearance of Cassidy's boss Mr. Cormier.
  • First appearance of the White Ranger since Zeo's "King for a Day, Part I".
  • First appearance of the Green Ranger since Season 3's "Master Vile and the Metallic Armor".
  • The Green MMPR Ranger's suit and props differ slightly from those of the Saban Era and the original DragonRanger suit, as a new one had to be made for this episode. A silver trim was added along the dragon nose on the helmet, the suit's color is now more Sentai-accurate (along with new boots and gloves), and the Power Morpher was changed from the original golden-plated to the standard silver-plated one used by the five core Mighty Morphin Rangers. The Dragon Shield, the gloves and boots' golden trims and its armbands are now remade in the proper hard foam material of the original prop from Zyuranger (finally doing away with the much maligned thin cloth replacements used for MMPR), but the Dragon Shield is now double-sided and also featured the diamond shape on the back as well and both the Dragon Shield and its armbands have a matte look, unlike the Sentai original one. The Dragon Dagger is now more Sentai-accurate (although it still does not have the buttons in the correct position on the hilt) and the holster is now white and on the wrong hip. This suit was kept for future appearances of the Green MMPR Ranger, such as a new picture of the Green Ranger used in the second volume of the Season 1 of Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers on DVD, and the Complete Series DVD set.
    • During filming of the episode "Legendary Battle" in Super Megaforce, this suit would be reused for the MMPR Green Ranger's appearance. However, the silver-trimmed helmet and the silver-plated Power Morpher were digitally recolored in almost every shot featuring the MMPR Green Ranger in post-production, in order to resemble the original DragonRanger suit and match with the Gokaiger footage, although a few shots were missed. The only change of the MMPR Green Ranger suit was the Dragon Dagger holster, which was changed to a black one and placed on the correct hip; again, in order to resemble the original suit and match with the footage.
    • In the episode "Dimensions in Danger" in Super Ninja Steel, this suit would slightly change once again, in order to resemble more closely to the one from Zyuranger, despite the MMPR Green Ranger only appear in original footage. The helmet was changed with a new one which no longer features the silver trim along the dragon nose and the Power Morpher was changed with a a golden-plated one, as both props were remade for this episode.
    • In Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always, this suit changed one more time. The Dragon Shield, armbands, gloves and boots were remade with a more Sentai-accurate look, due to the props fell into a state of disrepair after a prolonged use since Dino Thunder and were not replaced with new ones. The armbands, the gloves and boots' metallic trims and the Dragon Shield now sport a metallic look, being more identical to the original ones from the Zyuranger footage. However, the armbands now features ridged sections on them, not seen on any of the previous iterations of the suit, while the diamond shape on the back of the Dragon Shield is still there.
  • The White MMPR Ranger's suit and differ slightly from that of the Saban Era and the original KibaRanger suit, as it has a slight change. The only change of the suit was the belt, which now has the black trims on the buckle (finally doing away with the one used for MMPR, which lacks those black trims), being more similar to the one used in the Dairanger footage.
  • The Dragon Dagger now has a slightly different tone in tune to that of the original as Saban still owned the rights to the original.
  • The reason why Tommy never battles the Red Turbo Ranger in his dream is that he passed his power and Turbo Morpher and key onto T.J. Johnson and is no longer in possession of them but presumably still holds on to his old Power Morpher, Power Coins and Zeonizer (While the Green Ranger powers were given to another, that other person was Tommy's clone Tom Oliver in "Return of the Green Ranger". Tom may have been likely been considered close enough to Tommy that it wasn't considered giving away his powers and it's unknown if the Wizard of Deception made a new Dragonzord coin, leaving Tommy's untouched).
  • The Mighty Morphin White Ranger seems to be more powerful than Zeo Ranger V Red while in fact it was the exact opposite (according to Zordon and the MMPR and Zeo storyline).
  • Tellingly, when the other Rangers discuss Tommy's dream at the end of the episode, Ethan exclaims, "It's like all the Power Rangers universes lined up!" Whilst the ongoing appearances of Tommy and the video diary in "Legacy of Power" suggests that the entire PR continuity thus far has occurred in the same universe, some fans have suggested a multiverse theory to explain certain continuity problems between series over the years.
  • In the scene where Cassidy and Devin tell Mr. Cormier that the Power Rangers didn't show up, there are photos of the core Dino Rangers behind Mr. Cormier's desk. More interestingly, a photo of Yellow Lion from Liveman appears.
  • As of this episode, all of the Rangers have assumed Super Dino Mode at least once.
  • When Cassidy and Devin ask to the guys why the Rangers haven't shown up, Kira says that they probably went to the laundromat to wash their suits. This would be somewhat ironic as no Rangers have ever removed their suits in any episode except for the helmets, on the other hand it could raise suspicions of the identity of the Rangers.
