Icon-megarangerThis article is about a/an Megazord in Power Rangers in Space, the last installment in the Zordon Era.

The Astro Megazord is the main Megazord of the Space Rangers in Power Rangers in Space and later served as a base for the Galaxy Rangers in Power Rangers Lost Galaxy.

Overview[]

The Astro Megazord was armed with the Astro Megazord Blaster (a transformed state of the MegaShuttle's booster sled),  the Astro Megazord Saber (usually formed out of energy in the Megazord's hand), and the Astro Megazord Shield (typically attached to the underside of the Megaship when not in use), The Astro Megazord Saber had multiple attacks. First, it could be charged with energy and be used to deliver any number of powered-up slashes to the enemy. They could launch the Astro Megazord Saber into a monster's shoulder and energize it, obliterating them.

The Astro Megazord had two unnamed finishers; the first (and most commonly used) was energizing the Astro Megazord Saber with yellow pixelated energy before unleashing a devastating energy slash. The less commonly used finisher involved charging up the Astro Megazord Blaster to maximum power and unleashing a devastating spiral blast out of its barrel strong enough to obliterate monsters.

Components[]

Astro Megaship[]

The Astro Megaship was a vast spaceship made up of six decks with at least sixteen rooms to live in, machines designed to create food out of nothing called Cynthitrons, a hangar full of gadgets and containing the Megatank, and its own sentient AI named D.E.C.A. who was only ever heard via speaks and seen as red periscopes. Aside from the shuttle hangar, the Megaship consisted of 6 decks for its crew which contained a vault where the Astro Morphers were eventually stored at the heart of the ship. The Astro Megaship was capable of faster than light travel allowing it to voyage between solar systems. From the ship's bridge, the Megaship's crew operated the entire ship. The ship's steering controls, sensors, weapons systems, communications equipment, as well as D.E.C.A. were all accessed from here. The bridge was located on Megadeck 1 along the front part of the Astro Megaship. The SimuDeck, located on Megadeck 5, was the training room. The advanced holographic and robotic technologies in the SimuDeck allow the Rangers to practice their skills in a realistic yet safe environment. The SimuDeck could be programmed to display any type of location and can also create automated opponents for Rangers to fight such as Craterites. Since the SimuDeck could be programmed to recreate any environment, it can also be used for non-combat purposes such as recreation.

After the Lost Galaxy Rangers took up residence inside it, the living quarters were no longer used (perferring to live in Terra Venture itself) and the Astro Megaship was used far less regularly. However, the recreation room for eating and having fun was completely dismantled and replaced with and turned into a docking bay for the Jet Jammers.

The Astro Megaship was quite capable of defending itself from attackers with its shields, thick hull, and 2 double barreled laser turrets. D.E.C.A. normally handled firing the Megaship's weapons but they could be controlled manually from the bridge. The Megaship also came equipped with 2 ion cannons mounted on the bottom of the Megaship.

Astro Megashuttle[]

Galaxy Mega Shuttle Launch

Astro Megashuttle launchpad

The Astro Megashuttle was originally a space shuttle built to accommodate astronauts on a search for new planets. The shuttle was a part of the NASADA space program, built on Earth and ready for launch in its own silo. After the destruction of the Power Chamber, the Rangers could not go after Zordon to save him. Justin, the Blue Ranger, snuck into the NASADA building and told the commander that the Power Rangers needed to use the shuttle on an emergency mission. The commander agreed to allow the Rangers access to the shuttle, and from the ground Justin watches as his friends blast off into space, ending the Turbo series.

After the Rangers left Earth, they came across a larger ship that uses its tractor beam to pull the shuttle inside, in spite of the Rangers' outcries. The series begins to pick up once the shuttle docks with the ship. During the first few episodes, the shuttle is used to ferry the Rangers back and forth from the Astro Megaship to Earth. Astronema notices that without the shuttle the Astro Megazord cannot complete its transformation, prompting multiple attempts to destroy the shuttle.

Capabilities: Being the Astro Megazord's head was one of the major operating systems the shuttle had, though before it was the head to the Megazord, it was a self-contained space shuttle. The shuttle had its own thrust capabilities, though it needed major boost power to blast off from the ground into orbit; thus, it had its own booster rocket sled attached to the bottom, used on at least two occasions. It isn't clear where the boosters would go when not in use; however, it could transform into the Astro Megazord Blaster.
