"Ah, the Tengen Gate, symbol of Nighlok defeat. Now the site of my TRIUMPH!"
―Arachnitor apound arriving the Tenget Gate.[src]

"Initiative?! I defeated four Rangers, and besides it was my plan!"
―Arachnitor last words before being mutated into a talkless mutant and his destruction much later.[src]

Arachnitor was a black widow spider-themed Nighlok. Arachnitor served Master Xandred at first but then betrayed him and decided to usurp him and become a ruler of Nighloks himself. Arachnitor is a notorious Nighlok and is greatly feared by all Nighloks, including Octoroo. He serves as the main antagonist of the episodes "The Tengen Gate" and "Boxed In", which are a two-parter of Power Rangers Samurai, and later appears as the primary villain in the premiere episode of Power Rangers Super Samurai, "Super Samurai", and is the first monster of that season.

History[]

Arachnitor was a notorious Nighlok with a fierce reputation as one of the most powerful Nighloks. Arachnitor was greatly feared by all Nighloks, including Octoroo. Arachnitor served Master Xandred at first, but then decided to overthrow his master and become the ruler of Nighloks himself and conquer the human world.

In the seventeenth episode, Arachnitor decided to overthrow Master Xandred by sealing him while Master Xandred was in anger and busy sustaining himself with energy from the Sanzu River.

Arriving on Xandred's junk, he forced Octoroo into working with him where he plotted to learn the Sealing Symbol so that he could seal Xandred away and take his position as the Nighlok leader.

Learning that the Rangers were going to visit the Tengen Gate, he had Octoroo poison the tea that would be served. Jayden successfully drank the spiked tea. Upon which, Arachnitor and his regiment of Moogers assaulted the gate, overwhelming the helpless caretakers. The remaining Rangers assembled to defend from the assault; seeing that the Red Ranger was not among them, Arachnitor was pleased that his plan had worked.

The remaining four Rangers tried to hold off Arachnitor but were overwhelmed by his attacks, prompting them to call Antonio for backup. Antonio had been busy serving fish to Deker at the time and abruptly left.

By the time Antonio arrived, Arachnitor had already taken down Mike and Emily. Kevin and Mia then tried to hold him off and told him to help Jayden. Arachnitor laughed at the two for telling their friend to leave and easily took them down.

As he gloated at his triumph, Xandred, who had recovered, dragged him back to the Netherworld with a rope of red beads. Tired of his constant treachery, Xandred decided to give Arachnitor a taste of his new powers; however, the Nighlok was unable to handle the sudden surge in power and mutated into a mindless beast. After his mutation, he went to Earth to destroy the Rangers. The Rangers were overwhelmed by him and his energy discs but he was eventually taken down by the Quintuple Slash with Antonio powering it up. However, giant Moogers arrived, allowing Arachnitor to escape. Tvicon TV STORY-Boxed In (Samurai)

Arachnitor returns in Super Samurai, utilizing pools of Sanzu River water that were emerging in the human world, meaning that he no longer had to return to the Netherworld to recover. The Rangers follow him to what it seems to be an abandoned worksite with an area covered in puddles of Sanzu River Water with some back-up of Moogers. Although his sidekicks are defeated, he easily trounces the Rangers until Antonio gives Jayden the Black Box, enabling Jayden to go into Super Samurai Mode for the first time. Jayden and the monster battle, but the Red Ranger overwhelms Arachnitor, destroying the monster with a Super Blazing Strike.

Arachnitor grew giant, this time accompanied by Giant Moogers and Spitfangs sent by Octoroo to assist him in battle against the Samurai Megazord and Claw Battlezord East. The tide of the battle is once again turned when the Antonio tells Jayden to unleash the full power of the Black Box, forming the Claw Armor Megazord. The new Megazord overwhelms a crowd of Moogers, and then promptly destroys the rest with its Double Katana Strike. Though only Arachnitor and two Spitfangs remained, the Megazord had taken severe damage from the blasts. Seeking to end the fight, the Rangers summoned the TigerZord, SwordfishZord, BeetleZord, and OctoZord to form the Samurai Battle Cannon. However, because of the amount of Symbol Power it required to use, they had to withstand two rounds of Spitfang fireballs. Once this was done, the Rangers locked onto three monsters and fired the cannon, defeating the Spitfangs, and destroying Arachnitor once and for all with the Battle Cannon Blast. Personality[]

At first, Arachnitor was cunning, devious, sneaky and perfidious Nighlok, who desired for power and wanted to overthrow Master Xandred at any cost. He served Master Xandred at first but then betrayed him and decided to usurp him and become the ruler of Nighloks himself. Arachnitor is a notorious Nighlok and is greatly feared by all other Nighloks, including Octoroo. He considered himself a brave and intelligent monster but after being punished and mutated by Xandred, he became a mindless and violent brute, even more cunning and devious in his goal to destroy the Rangers.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Levitation: Arachnitor posses the ability to levitate and could move away from his enemies. He later used it to avoid the blades of all four Rangers before attacking them with a spin attack in his old form.
  • Gap Teleportation: Arachnitor could transport himself into the Netherworld using gaps to escape from a battle.
  • Spin Attack: Arachnitor can very easily spin around and race forth, rapidly lashing his blades out at his enemies as he goes. This is one of his most powerful attacks and could easily take down Mia, Emily, Mike, and Kevin.
  • Web Spit: Being a spider-theme monster, Arachnitor could spew out red energy from his mouth that turned into webbing. It was strong enough to restrain Mia and Emily.
    • Electrocution: Arachnitor could charge up his webs with red lightning to electrocute his enemies.

Abilities[]

  • Strength: Arachnitor is one of the strongest monsters in the series, knocking down the Rangers with single slashes from his pincers and being able to take Jayden's Spin Sword out of its Fire Smasher mode just by blocking it. When leaping at the Rangers, a single swing of his pincers knocked back Mia. A single strike of his claws on both girls easily knocked them down.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: Arachnitor has thick skin and could take some extremely powerful hits. Blasts from Kevin's Hydro Bow, which would later destroy Rhinosnorus, merely knocked him over.
  • Extraordinary Leaper: Arachnitor could leap at a far dictate.
  • Extraordinary Jumper: Arachnitor could jump high enough from one place to another.
  • Expert Hand-to-Hand Combat: In addition to his pure raw strength, Arachnitor was also an extremely skilled fighter and an expert at hand to hand combat, easily being able to overwhelm four Rangers.

Weaknesses[]

  • Sanzu River Reliance: Like all Nighloks, Arachnitor must stay around the Sanzu River or he will dry out. But, he was never seen drying out, but he did go to a Sanzu puddle to rehydrate, so he must dry out eventually.

Arsenal[]

  • Claw Blades: Arachnitor had sharp curved red claw-like blades on his arms to use in combat.
    • Energy Slashes: Arachnitor could charge up his claw-like blade with red energy and slash his enemies with full forces, this attack was powerful enough to demorph any Ranger in one hit.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Lightning Generation: Arachnitor was able to unleash devastating red lightning from his body that caused large explosions.
  • Tentacle Whiplash: Arachnitor was able to shoot forth red tentacles from his torso sharp enough to explosively knock down all four Rangers present.
    • Tentacle Wrapping: As shown during his final battle, Arachnitor could use his tentacles to entangle his enemies and render them helpless on the ground.
  • Chest Energy Lasers: Arachnitor could fire red energy lasers from the eyes on his chest, they are extremely strong and could destroy buildings in one shot and could be fired in rapid succession.
  • Energy Discs: Arachnitor could fire pink energy discs from the mouth of his torso. These are his strongest attacks because they easily wiped out all six Rangers.
  • Enlarging: Like all other Nighloks, Arachnitor can enlarge himself after being defeated. It's possible he had this ability before being mutated but it was never used.

Abilities[]

  • Super Enhanced Strength: Being mutated by Master Xandred, Arachnitor is now stronger than before since he was able to take down a Ranger with every swing, critically injure many of them, and single slashes from his pincers caused small explosions on their chests.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: In his enhanced form, Arachnitor had become more nigh-invulnerable after being mutated, displaying impressive feats of immunity such as when he was completely unfazed by a red energy slash from Jayden's Spin Sword and later survived the Quintuple Slash (empowered by Antonio) without getting a scratch. Even multiple slashes from Jayden's Super Spin Sword with minimal reaction meant that only Super Samurai Mode and the Claw Armor Megazord's Samurai Battle Cannon could harm him or destroy him.
  • Extraordinary Leaper: Arachnitor retains his ability to leap at a far dictate.
  • Sense: Arachnitor can sense anyone near by.

Weaknesses[]

  • Sanzu River Reliance: Like all Nighloks, Arachnitor must stay around the Sanzu River or he will dry out. But, he was never seen drying out, but he did go to a Sanzu puddle to rehydrate, so he must dry out eventually.

Arsenal[]

  • Claw Blades: Arachnitor's hands have been replaced with his own Claw Blades that are razor sharp and larger than before.
    • Explosions: Arachnitor's claw blades could cause small fiery explosions to erupt on the Rangers' torsos every time they hit them.
  • Spitfangs: During his final battle, whilst giant, Arachnitor could used two Spitfangs that can shoot fireballs as weapons at the Rangers by forcing back their heads to spew out their attacks.

Behind the Scenes[]

Portrayal[]

Design[]

  • Arachnitor’s original form had orange eyes, mandibles, and short horns. His bull torso has maroon eyes.
  • Arachnitor’s Mutant form had red eyes, and long horns with fire. His bull torso has red eyes with pupils.

Etymology[]

  • Arachnitor's name is a play on "Arachnid".

Notes[]

  • Arachnitor is one of the strongest monsters in Samurai, and maybe the entire Power Rangers franchise, being able to nearly kill four of the Rangers even in his original form and even in his second form, he was only defeatable using Super Samurai Mode. Octoroo was terrified into compliance while Xandred had to personally intervene to handle the treacherous Nighlok.
  • Of the Power Rangers Samurai monsters, Arachnitor has the most episode appearance, appearing in three episodes.
  • In Power Rangers Super Samurai, Arachnitor's second mutated is known for being the very first second form of a Monster-Of-The-Week in the Power Rangers series to not appear mid-way or near the end of the season/series, but rather be the very first Monster-Of-The-Week of a season.
  • Arachinitor is one of the extremely few monsters who is not destroyed in the same season. He debuts in Samurai, but is not destroyed until Super Samurai a year later.
  • It is unknown if Arachnitor had any interaction with Serrator in "A Crack in the World".
  • It is unknown if Master Xandred should of destroyed Arachnitor like he tried to destroy Serrator.
